How long does it take for a new villager to move in?

Simon just moved out, thank god, and it's been about 3 days and nobody has moved in yet!
I'm hoping that somebody won't move in since I only have 9 villagers now.
More importantly, nobody has been in the campsite. It could just be bad luck, or is it because somebody has to move in? I'm really hoping that is not the case where I can't make people move in through the campsite, because I really want Pietro. Anybody have knowledge on this?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think if you have 9 villagers, you can't get a random move in.

If you have 9 villagers then another villager will not randomly move in. You have to get one through the campsite, spotpass, or from a villager moving out of another town by visiting the town and talking to them on the day they are moving out. You can also pick up a villager that has recently moved out of a town by visiting the town and having that 10th slot open.

The campsite being empty is bad luck. It will be empty most days, I've gone a week sometimes with nobody occupying it. Generally I've noticed the campsite will be empty 5 or so days for every day its full, but its all random.

That's a relief for me too! Bangle just moved out and I really want to choose who I want next from the campsite.

I'm pretty positive you can get a random 10th move in from wifi-ing with someone who recently voided a villager. I did a trade with someone recently and I had nine villagers, then a villager moved into my 10th spot and he said he was from the town where the person I traded with was mayor of, even though I never went to their town or talked to him before or anything x__x

When you void a villager, the villager goes into your town's villager pool. Whenever you visit another town, or another player visits you, they have a chance to get one of the villagers in your pool, and then your pool clears.

You got the villager out of the other town's voided villager pool from the player visiting your town.
