How does the "move to a new town" work

So I started a new main town on a blank cartridge, and eventually will move over everything from my original main town. So before the update there was this option "move my home to a new town" How does that work? Would I be able to move my alts in my main town to my new one with their homes and all items in tact?

Edit: Both towns are named Mystic.

I think you can move a single alt to a new town by creating a new town from scratch and making them the mayor. You can't move them into an existing town.

I can't speak about "amiibo."

In "New Leaf," moving a Character Nos. 2 or 3 or 4 to become mayor of a new town is a norm. (Under the old system, at least, one could not move a mayor to a new town. For the new system, which I did not try personally, you can sell a town. That is being discussed in another thread.)

Does that mean our whole house moves with us because that would be amazing.

Let's see if my spotty memory will be of any help....I did this not too long ago... first, I had a new ACNL cartridge in another 3DSXL...I think the instructions/options for the move are on the new one...both 3DSs must be on wi-fi local...one non-mayor character can move, retaining house and all of its contents...your postal account and all its bells go with you... It's all very simple...the two killers for me were that it would've been my 9th town and you start at the train station with Isabelle and go through that tiresome routine of getting 100% ...Isabelle is such a butt-pain, that was enough for me. That's the long-winded way to say it's a simple way to move one extra character to a new town and keep all of your cra...stuff.

Yes. You do the same routine with Tom Nook. (I'm really gonna feel like a maroon if my memory proves to be faulty)
