Just kinda curious~ I dig holes outlining where the paths are gonna be and then place them~
Like this~

That's actually a really good idea! I usually just put mine wherever with no planning. For my current town I might try this! c:

i just place them down, rooting from the town plaza and branching onward

makes it less boring cuz i hate paths that go directly to its destination. i prefer to have a lil walkaround before getting to the train station or smth

I like natural paths -- ones that bend and follow a flow, etc. Difficult to plan, but very rewarding.

I made multiple trips to the island to steal flowers. Then outlined where I wanted paths to go with said stolen flowers.

I use hole-based rulers a lot myself, but for outlining buildings or garden/tree placement, then I just slap down tiles in whatever fashion looks nicest/most practical from outline to outline.

Especially big projects that require me to cut down a lot of trees to construct/path get detailed on a spreadsheet. Graph paper works fine too.
My WIP Hedge Garden for example.

Digging holes is a very good idea but let's say you do that for your entire town and you hit Save and Quit.. you lose your progress :( Do you lose your progress when the day changes at 6 AM too? I'm asking because I need to work on my paths but I can't keep playing for a long time.

I pretty much just lay them down and fix it as I go. I've spent a lot of time laying down full paths, deciding I don't like it, and wiping them up. But currently I have a layout im pretty satisfied with. I switched from 2-tile wide paths to 1 tile paths, and I'm liking it a lot better already.

I'll typically walk my character up and down the line where I want my path a few times, note any surrounding landmarks (rocks, trees, buildings), and then just lay it down from memory.

Not sure if my method would work for someone using paths involving more than just one pattern square, though. I don't use multi-part designs for my paths, which simplifies the process a lot.
