I use both, actually. I didn't realize that I did, until now.

Oh, I thought there were going to be different options. I've never heard anyone say it with a hard g. I use a soft g, but I pronounce it like JEER-oid. Not sure if that's correct, but that's how I've always been inclined to pronounce it.

Jai-roid.
"when followed by, e I or y, g may say /j/."
Mostly, it does say /j/ when followed by those vowels. gym, gyrate, gem, giraffe, etc.
So that rule also makes sense in this instance.

(I'm a kindergarten teacher, so I teach phonics rules.)

I usually hear it pronounced jai-roid, but I've always been inclined to call them guy-roids.

Hard G. "Jai" is probably the correct way of pronouncing it but "guy-roid" sounds better to me.

I say both interchangeably if that makes sense? Like sometimes I'll pronounce it "Guy-roid" and other times "Jai-roid" There really is no rhyme or reason for me just whichever one pops into my head at the time when I see it.

the first time i saw it i knew it was pronounced with a soft g. with a hard g it just sounds like some energy drink.
