Like do you have a theme in mind when you decide which villagers you want in a town? Or do you have like certain guidelines or criteria for putting certain people in your towns...

Like I'm super proud of the two sets of Villagers I'm working on because I must have all the personalities represented with no repeating species and like can't have two villagers similar in a certain way (Like I got so frustrated because I had Ankha and Bianca in the same town and the similarities of their name freaked me out)(or like there are so many white snooty/normal villagers but I didn't want two in the same town)(don't even get me started with the eagles and cats) I guess I'm sorta OCD when it comes to them....

My first town is themed a little darker and shifty looking villagers who fit into the Skyrim named town. The second town is literally just filled with my favorite villagers, turns out a lot of them are orange....

Is anyone else as OCD when it comes to picking villagers? Please tell me I'm not alone

Typically I just let villagers I like enough stay. I might do a theme if I make another town. Those are hard to do, though. ^^"

I totally plan out my villagers.

See....I've played without picking villagers for Animal Crossing on Game Cube, Wild World, and City Folk, and the first round I played of New Leaf when it came out 2 years ago.

So here I am, all these years later, and now I want to plan. There are villagers I have never met, even after all these years!

I have multiple planning documents. I try to go with a theme to a town. My current project town of Rumble, the all "Bear" town, is my first all same animals within one town. I have so many plans I think I am going to have to rank my town idea plans, and the villagers in them!

I remember visiting Riften awhile back. I'm excited to see what you are up to - it looks like you have been full of change in all your towns!

If you ever want to talk villager planning, I could continue talking. There is so much to consider!

I too have planning documents... Riften has little themed plots and I was stuck trying to pick replacements for each plot, but keeping the 1 species- all personality- 5 to 5 gender ratio... obvi have duplicates of some personality, but I'm obsessed with my current planned villagers, I don't think I could play and just let people move in... I get antsy to time travel a lot to get all these villagers and then I mellow out with them and play normal once all is set!

It depends, it's generally on looks alone but not just what I think is stereotypically cute (although I won't lie, a few are), generally I like interesting designs like zucker the takoyaki octopus or Flora the flamingo

What happened to me, is:

I was always gonna have Rod, he's my number 1 fave and we shared a story together in WW, which is far too long to understand. It involves him moving in, then out, then back in, then back out again. Walker I was gonna try for because he moved in right after Rod moved the second time in WW, and he was the first villager to give me his pic! I wanted Daisy because She was my best friend before I restarted New Leaf. When I restarted NL, I started with Pinky, and I was like:
PINK PANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#

I also started with Coco, and I thought she was pretty cool too. Mathilda was a random move in and I thought she looked so cool! She moved out in a TT accident, and I'm currently cycling for her. Lucky because he's my brothers fave, and I'm also cycling to get him back. I also got Marshal as a random move in and I thought he looked really cool!! I saw Skye in the campsite once and I knew I must have her. Finally Rudy because he's blimmin' RUDOLPH!!!

My first town, Hanamura, I just picked whoever I liked. No rhyme or reason to it beyond "I like this one" and I'd definitely reset a lot when I get my mind on a specific villager (I spent four hours resetting for my absolute favourite villager: Lobo). But because I like all the villagers in my town I'm pretty protective over them and sometimes spend ages resetting each time I want to play because I don't want a random move-in messing up my layout or to accidentally lose someone I really like - it's a lot of hassle for something that's meant to be fun. By the time I'm done with that and have made sure I'm not losing any villagers I often don't feel like playing anymore haha.

For my new town, Konohana, I'm playing totally casual and trying not to care too much about my villagers. Justin suggested that he thought I'd enjoy the game a lot more if I didn't think too much about it and so far he's right - it's more relaxing just leaving it up to chance like this. It's hard to resist resetting though! When I turned on my game today to find out that Rodney is moving in right next to my Mayor I briefly grimaced, then after a moment reminded myself that this is what I wanted! I also got Greta in my starter villagers and at first I thought "ugh" but now a couple days later I think she's kind of cute. It's a nice way to play.

I just pick ones who I really liked in previous games or who I think look absolutely adorable. A lot of my villagers I got because they came in my campsite and I liked them. XD

I pick villagers depending on if they are cute, cool or ugly ones that I think look nice.

I have Chrissy as a dreamy and I think shes cute.

I have Eugene as a dreamy and I think hes cool, plus hes my ultimate dreamy.

I don't have Barold, Diva or Elise as my dreamies, but I really do think they are nice.

I don't pick dreamies because of the tiers, I pick them because I like them.

I guess for me, it starts with the town theme. What kind of town do I want?

Then, I usually decide on one villager is the most important. The whole town begins with them.

After that, I make a list on a sheet of paper for the 8 personalities, and then I have +1 and +1, the extras that round out the town, or if they will be random.

Having all 8 until all PWPs are unlocked is super important to me - plus it keeps conversations from being too much of the same.

The +1s do not have to be one boy and one girl for me, it's whomever will fit that would be awesome to have. One town I have more boys than girls, the other town I have more girls than boys.

I have ideas for future towns based more about the choice of villagers and less about PWPs and town layout - forest town, Christmas town, creepy town...and some more unique themes that I still haven't figured out all my villagers yet.

Honestly, planning out towns on paper is more fun for me than even daily playing?! The potential. The ideas! I love helping other people plan out the villagers for their towns. I give it a lot of thought - I think about the chemistry between villagers.

I go online and go through the animals, and write down the ones I like. I do this monthly and I get up to 20 Villagers c: Then I pick ones, but I went through Cats Dogs and Bears for my town this time.

I have one town where I just tell villagers to stay if they're lazy, and get out if you aren't because it's my favorite of the personalities. A couple of the non-lazy villagers that were there when I started the town still haven't moved out but everybody else is lazy from the campsite, being an original lazy, or this great place for helping out. Lazytown is kinda slow with the house improvements and pwp's (besides the camp, benches, dream center, bridges and the cot & hammock) and the paths are just dirt roads. Even the Nook's play along and don't upgrade their store at all.

And the other town is way more diverse with at least one of each of the 8 types and has all the bells/upgrades/items/projects I can get my hands on. I let them move out except my favorite one, and replace them by whatever personality type thanks to the camp when lucky enough or again this awesome place.

It depends. Some are favorites from past games (Amelia and Apollo), some are adorable af (Molly and Poppy), some are just random and some it's just to see the hype (Stitches)

I go through and pick the ones of each personality type with th ebest designs, except jocks because I'm not a fan of them personally. Then I narrow them down in the personality categories until I have 10.

I mostly just wait to see who moves in, but I've become fussy about which campers get invited to stay. It comes down to: Are you a cat? Yes? Welcome to Rosetown. No? Enjoy camping here then leave. I like cats a lot in real life, and that has transferred to the game. Which is not to say I'm aiming for a full cat town. I got quite fond of other villagers who moved in.
