How do you get a gold axe?

I have bought over 50 bags of fertilizer, not sure how many saplings and every bush start that is in the shop. Just wondering how do I finally get the gold axe? Thanks for the help.

I believe Lief gives it to you after you've bought enough saplings. Fertilizer counts for the golden shovel and bushes don't count for the axe. I just kept buying the trees until he gave it to me.

It's solely trees. I had it before I could even get fertilizer. (Actually I still can't get fertilizer ;_; )

You have to buy 50 tree saplings. Both regular and cedar saplings contribute to the count~
