ive restarted a few times n over the 10 or so starters ive had, i only liked 3 (boone, flip, and sprocket) n there are people who are getting some of the most popular villagers AS STARTERS??

h o w

(yes, i know its random)

I think you're guaranteed a Jock and a Sisterly, right?
I wouldn't worry to much about the starters, as villagers can easily be moved and replaced.
You should def focus on a map + fruit + airport color that you like instead!

I wouldn’t focus on getting good starters at all since they’re stuck in the crummy starter houses. Just put up with them for a bit til you can Amiibo them out for the villagers you do want

I remember resetting for a good while but some jock villagers didnt even show up once. Also, what popular jock and uchi are we talking about? because i feel like there arent that many XD

honestly i liked starting with villagers i disliked, since it meant i didn't have to stick with their bare starter houses c':

Expanding your definition of a “good starter” helps. Not trying to be rude but like, take it from someone who was pretty picky when starting my island: the starter villagers are gonna have generic houses and really, they’re all pretty nice villagers in one or another so why stress about it?

Also, only the first 2 are true fixed starter villagers (a jock and an uchi). The next 3 you can get anyone from the lazy, normal, and peppy personalities. And the fourth will be a fixed smug. After that they're all random again :) (although your campsite will likely give you crankies and snooties at that point)

I agree with a lot of the above. I only reset one time to avoid a town of only pigs as my starters.

I was happy to have Tank, who isn't really popular, and Canberra who I ended up liking a lot despite her permaangry face. Their houses were incredibly dull and I was glad I started off with rando villagers for the most part. I regret getting Mitzi because her house is very plain, but I am making more like her New Leaf home every little bit.

This ^^. I had ugly starters (diva and biff) and while I was happy to get rid of Diva, I'm glad I didn't start out with one I liked or their house would be fugly forever.

If you’re gonna restart, I’d pay more attention to your airport color. It’s linked to items you’ll be stuck with in the game lol.

Luck. Villagers weren’t in my criteria when I started my island, unless it was Canberra, then I’d definitely reset. Lol.

I reset for 3 hours trying to get Pierce and in the end I didn't even get him. I'd also say it's important to look for your map instead for river mouths and maybe airport colour, but otherwise, have fun!

lol that was my mistake all 4 (or 5?) times I reset in new leaf. somehow I never learned the lesson that villagers are miles less important than choosing a map you like and ended up dissatisfied and wanting to reset every time

bit less important in new horizons, but please make sure you're at least somewhat happy with airport colour, beach layout, native fruit, rock layout, dock location and size, airport location, peninsula size and location, town hall location and river mouth location before you settle on a map, regardless of the villagers. they are very much replaceable and the other things are not

i wasn’t really looking for good starters - i was just looking for the native fruit that i wanted, a decent rs location and a good layout - i got tammy and kid cat as my starters so i suppose i got the good ones c’:

People either reset for the villagers they want or they get lucky.
I just went with my first map and villagers, I didn't want to keep resetting, because who knows when I would have gotten to actually play the game.
I like my starting two villagers though, I got Fuchsia and Coach, they are both still on my island.

I don't think getting good starters really matters unless you love the starting houses. Flip is great though, I also started with him :)

My best starters were Dom and Cherry, but I didn’t like having them as starters since they never upgrade their houses.

I personally recommend not taking any villager you want as a permanent villager for your first 5 villagers since they will be stuck with the generic house (unless you like the starter houses).

Starting villagers matters the least to me when resetting since villagers can always come and go, but you’re stuck with a lot of other stuff forever.

Starters get terrible house interiors. I wouldn't stress over getting good starters

As others have said, don't worry about the first 5 villagers. They won't have their true original interiors, Other than some rare instances I would say the general starter interiors are much, much worse. With people giving away villagers and trading it should be relatively easy to find the villagers you want later anyways.
