I love my all-time favourite villager so much, but when I find out that they're in Tier 6, I felt a little disheartened. I mean, I know not everybody is going to like that villager, but my problem is that I see tiers as a form of status symbol. I feel as if I must have something from Tier 1, but if I have something from Tier 6, then it means that I don't have good taste in villagers. It doesn't help that out of all of my dreamies, only my all-time favourite is in Tier 6.

I really want to stop viewing them as a form of status symbol. I want to love them for their character design and their personality, but it's just so easy to get caught up by tiers. What do you people think?

The tier lists are kinda bad sometimes, I mean Boomer is in tier 6 and he's my favorite.

dont feel too bad! agnes, annalisa, blanche and mott have been my dream villagers for while, i think theyre all super cute! (and mott was my childhood crush)

i think everyone has a fav 'worthless' villager; the only true worth of a villager is how much you like interacting with them :^3

I haven't even looked at any of the lists. I just know which ones are more popular and which ones are usually hated.
I pick villagers that I like. It's my town. Why would I care what other people think of my villagers?
It's a list to gauge popularity, not a "this villager is better than the ones below" list.

just try to remember, villager tiers don't determine who's better than others! it's just a way for cyclers/anyone selling a villager to determine whether or not anyone might want that villager, or how much to sell them for. it's really just a reference for selling more than anything else. there are some absolutely adorable villagers in every tier, so just do your best not to think of it as a competition thing. in fact, I love having towns with lower tier villagers, because you'll find villagers like Diana, marshal, Julian, merengue etc in 100 different towns, but you may not see someone like melba, or portia, or merry often at all. :')

The tier list I made has absolutely nothing to do with how you view your villagers. If I wanted to make it like that, it would be posted in this subforum and not the villager trading plaza. it's posted in the VTP because it's used for sellers & cyclers to determine how easily a villager can be sold, or in other words how sought out after a villager is.

edit: Crash beat me to it. xD

Most of my liked villagers and dream villagers are in tiers 5 or 6. I don't see it as a problem. I just like villagers that are less popular.

I never look at the tier charts...don't know, don't wanna know, don't care.If I like the way a villager looks, their personality type and how they generally behave(if I get a chance to observe them before adopting),I'll snag 'em.

Yeah I mean, if you like a villager that's good enough the tiers don't have to play a part in it xD It's what you want in your town though I know how you feel and it's hard to avoid it and all. There's a few different tiers in my town too and I usually forget about which tier they are in lol

Tiers really don't matter. Literally almost all of my favorite villagers people constantly call ugly, gross, etc... lmao

Nobody cares about what villagers are in another person's town.

Since you are the one that is going to be spending the most time with the villager, you should pick ones that you personally like.

I think the tier lists are garbage to be honest, and shouldn't be seen as a guide for what villagers are 'good taste' or not. (in fact, I personally think the majority of tier 1/2 villagers are bad, but that doesn't mean I have poor taste just because I prefer lower tiers.) I also wish people would give move villagers a chance instead of basing them off of the tiers list. It'd be nice to see people talk about and have towns with villagers other than like... Stitches, All those wolves, Julian, etc. The creators made SO MANY villagers and they're all meant to be enjoyed by different people. That's why they all look so different, because we're all different people who like different things. Tiers are just a list of what villagers are popular, but popular doesn't always mean good. McDonalds is popular but is it good? No. Maybe it tastes good but it's bad for you. Same with villagers. A villager may be popular and tier 1, but it doesn't mean that villager is good for you personally - you should like your villagers because you like THEM, not some list on a forum.

Crash and Alexi said what I was gonna say but it should also be noted that tier lists aren't even the same across different forums, tumblr etc so if you try to let them influence you you're still gonna get a mixed bag of villagers. I haven't even looked at the tier lists in like a year because I'm not looking to buy villagers anymore so it's not relevant? lol as others have said just get the villagers you like because it literally does not matter whatsoever what their 'status' is on tbt, or anywhere else 4 that matter.

the tier lists represent popularity, not how good the villager is. you could have a town of entirely tier 6 villagers and it could still be amazing. c:

Also if it makes you feel better, a lot of Tier 5's and Tier 6's are sought after and actually incredibly hard to get because few people trade them! I love Tier 5/6 villagers because they are so unique and interesting.

Sweetie, this is a game we play based on animals we find adorable. It's not a competition between players to fill their towns with the 'popular' kids. Why would you let something like that bother you? The tiers mean nothing to me and probably many other players. And that is not to belittle Alexi's WONDERFUL and TIRELESS work on the tier charting. I find the tiers simply interesting as they show what villagers BTB members find the most popular. But I would never let the tiers affect whom I choose to have in my towns. I choose villagers I have had in past AC games and new ones I have met and fallen in love with. It's like friendships in real life: are you only interested in being friends with the cool kids? And are you going to allow a tier to choose your friends for you? See how silly that sounds? Why would you let other people choose your friends for you?

Just stop paying attention to tiers :P you're entitled to like whatever villagers you like, and what other people might think of your town is irrelevant and unimportant.

Yeah, I tend to not care what the tiers say. I have tons of favorite villagers who are considered low tier. It literally makes no difference to me what other people think of my faves!

The tiers list are only for, like, cycling and selling / buying villagers. A lot of my dreamies are either tiers 4, 5, 6 and I don't feel any shame in my tastes. This is the same person who used to worry about being into popular stuff, but I realized that it all depends on personal taste and preferences. If I like obscure stuff, then i'm going to be damn proud of my tastes. They're unique to me, and if they make me feel happy then I shouldn't let anybody else dictate what I should and shouldn't like.

If you love the lower-tier villagers, don't feel pressured to like the 'higher-quality' villagers. In the end, AC is just a game we all play to relax and have fun. Unless it's an in-game competition, there's no need to be pressured to have the best of everything.
