How did you figure out what you wanted for your island map?

Did you keep your original island map, the cliffs and rivers, everything the same. or did you change it up when you unlocked terraforming?

Edit- also how did you figure out which island layout you liked? how did you get your inspiration?

I remade almost everything about my island. I started with the back cliffs of my island to make a waterfall cave entrance thingie. I thought that looked cool and decided to remodel my island to be more nature themed with tons of flowing waterfalls

I knocked down every single cliff that was on the third level, filled up ponds and flattened anything that was a random protrusion.

I took what I had on my island and did a lot of tweaking. If you asked me to start from scratch, I would have no idea how to start.

i'm keeping most of the terrain the same, mostly because i don't have the brain to bulldoze and start it all from scratch. i've been letting the original environment inspire me i guess you could say? i also like looking back on what was 'original' and what i adapted.

The only thing I absolutely wanted to do was have my house next to a waterfall on a cliff so I made that happen and then I've been pretty much guessing with everything else

i just kinda doodled some random shapes in paint and thought "yes, i will work with this"
i dont reccomend it i now have 0 clue where to put anything lol

My island is pretty similar to its original layout, but that's what I wanted. I've made some changes (like raising cliffs, adding a few waterfalls, moving rivers down a bit), but nothing that can't be reversed if I don't like it.

i haven't finished everything, but i have destroyed most of my rivers and started on my main street, and i have to move a bunch of buildings now. i did destroy a good amount of my third level cliff when i was making my original hybrid garden, which i have now taken down (for the most part), and i'm working through building up my island, though there's a lot that i want to do that i'm not sure how to, but i guess it's all trial and error. i'm going to murder most of my original layout, but there's a good chance i'll keep a mini island in the middle of my rivers for old time's sake, that would be cool

Mine is mostly the same as the original map. I don't like how the raised areas look when they're in the front, so I just expanded the second/third level areas in the back, flattened the left side of the island for growing hybrids, and made some slight changes to rivers/waterfalls.

I tried using an island planner to fix my layout. I removed the side rivers and place the river in the middle of my town.

I finally started really going deep into terraforming a couple days ago -- I didn't even touch it when I unlocked it which was like...2 months ago lol. It took a lot of gathering inspiration off IG/Twitter and looking at other people's maps to have an idea of what I wanted to do. But what gives me the most inspiration is watching island tours off Youtube. I kept most of the second level that was already at the back of my island and just expanded it across the map in a straight line. I can't stand jagged edges in rivers so I fixed that up as well. Terraforming is a lot easier when you have concept ideas of what you wanna do (i.e. neighborhood, marketplace, etc.)

I've made small changes to different areas of my island as I went along and thought of stuff. Probably the biggest thing I've done was just bend the river the other way at one end of the island so I'm not left with an awkward strip of land and not much to put on it. I haven't gone all out like some people, I'm just trying to take it day by day and try new things when I think of them. Slowly it's coming together.

I took kind of the original layout and changed a little bit acording to whatever I felt like doing, didn't put much thought into it like a fool hahahaha

I kept my original layout expect that I moved a river a little to the left and made a cliff a lil bit bigger. Other than that I've worked with what I had and even if it's not very flashy I like how things are going right now (^:

I've decided not to terraform anything, beyond carving out spaces for the inclines to make them look smoother. I really liked my map layout from the beginning, so I'm keeping it natural.. Only downside is it can be a real pain to navigate, but I figure once I get all of my bridges etc in place, it'll be much nicer.

I “planned” using the island designer website. Chose the one that atleast had the river mouths I wanted. I tried to follow the plan and ended up just going with the flow. Now, it’s no where near what I “planned.” :)

I've wiped my island clean twice already lmao... It's just a few moments that struck me. All I originally knew I wanted was a museum centered over the service center, a farmer's market, a botanical garden, and eventually that frog island.
Pre-terraforming vs current WIP. I don't usually like straight rivers in my towns but I think it's necessary for what I'm going for...

Well, I've technically gotten a 5-star island 3 times lol. Did it up, tore it down, and repeated the process.

My current map (which is the one I'm happiest with) was inspired by a LOT of YouTube videos and Island Tours. I pick and chose what designs/ideas I like from those and change them up to make my own unique version of it c: I'm currently getting a second switch and making my new island a haunted one. Will probably end up doing the same. Cause honestly... there are so many AC players, rarely any idea is 100% original and even if I did it without any influence, SOMEONE would have something similar to me.

I think there was only one island that was so unique it blew my mind- they terraformed the whole island into water and made a cruise ship. If I had the patience and skill, I would love to try it.

i wasn’t picky about my island at all - i just wanted peaches as my native fruit and the rs tent to be somewhere near the center so it didn’t take me long to get a layout i liked!

as for terraforming, i made very minimal changes - i only expanded/narrowed rivers so that i could put bridges where i wanted them and made a tiny little pond next to my house. besides that, i haven’t really done any terraforming and likely won’t aha
