I have a Pinterest board with lots of Ghibli images for inspiration. I tried to recreate some Ghibli areas on my island (although you probably wouldn't recognize them without directly looking at the reference picture) but I also looked at others people's islands on Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration.

My inspiration came from pokemon! my island is based on Laverre city and Ballonlea, the two beautiful fairy towns. I look at other people's islands mainly to find good QR codes, and inspiration if their theme is similar to mine (that's a little rare though cause most islands are cottagecore). But I honestly avoid looking at others too much, cause the items in the game are limited and i don't want to feel like everything i do has been done before asfhuehfk

I got an inspiration from instagram YouTube video but in the end I never entirely copy paste exactly what they have done. I think in the end I just want it to be my way. 😃

I just go with whatever I like. I love small-town settings, but organized and accessible, so I went with that by mental picture.

My island decoration is sporadic lol. I've taken inspiration from a lot of other people's differently themed islands. So far I've only put effort into decorating around my villager's houses, so I have a rustic farm area, an overgrown graveyard, a cultivated zen area, and a stargazing section. I do plan on taking some inspiration from real life once I actually start decorating the main part of the island, I'm thinking of basing a lot of it on Whitby for that English seaside tourist trap aesthetic (and so the creepy graveyard elements aren't so out of place).

Most of mine is original from whatever my brain will think of haha and with some natural inspirations as well. I also sometimes see a pattern or design and I get ideas so I try to incorporate it somehow! Most of my island is just cliffs & flowers so there wasn’t much decorating needed 😅

Most of my ideas are my own 100%. Some probably don't make sense to anyone else because they're kind of random, while others I know or guess exist elsewhere because they're predictable (like decorating a beach with beach-themed items).

There were some ideas I got from other people. I didn't straight up copy them, it was more just finding out about some items or patterns. For example, I have a small food court with stalls like many people do. I picked the items on display myself and so on but I wouldn't have known about hat food patterns otherwise!

My island is a mash-up of different places I like / want to go to in real life. I named my island after Nara, the city of deer in Japan so I tried to make my downtown area look true to the original by designing similar tiles/sidewalks to the ones in Nara, and recreating some buildings. I also made a Lawson (a popular convenience store in Japan) and a traditional Japanese inn to make it feel like my Island is somewhere in Japan. And then I added some random things that I liked, like a library for my villagers to read in (since most of them have the education sub-personality), a fruit-tree-forest since I didn't want to make a separate orchard, and a "food street" alleyway (this last one was inspired by a player on twitter). I'm not really a beach person so my beaches are completely empty right now and once I'm satisfied with the rest of my island I might look to twitter for inspiration on what to do with them.

i mean it’s half inspo half blind lmao, ill see a concept im into, not think abt it, and then at 3AM it’ll come back to me and i’ll try replicating it from memory on my island half asleep
