how did you choose your island name?

My NL island was Adolphus, I almost went with Gustavus for NH, but stuck with Adolphus again. I just like the name, honestly didn't think too much about it. There are lots of better, more imaginative names in this thread!

Tierinsel is German for Animal Island. It fits the theme of the game, is 10 characters long, and I am learning German... so it just made perfect sense for me to name my island Tierinsel.

There was a thread here before the game came out. The topic was "What would you name your town?"

I literally couldn't think of something, but a post caught my eye. It was called Basil Bay. I stole it lmao. I only did it because Basil is my irl name. I thought it was kinda cute and witty.

I now regret that decision. I like it still, but I can't get over the fact that I took it and the fact that a crap ton of people use Bay in their island names. I won't be a typical cliche for too much longer.

I thought about the beach destination in the Caribbean, Cozumel, and named my island Docemel

When looking into the game beforehand, I found somewhere that it is basially a virtual dollhouse, so I wanted something with doll in the name. Originally I was thinking Dollsgarden, which was just one character too long. Dollgarden would have worked, but didn't roll off the tongue as nicely. Since I like all things dark and love the themes and images it conveyes in my mind, I went with Dollsgrave instead.

My dog was shedding when I got the game and we call her balls of fur "floofers" so my island got called Floofers. My villagers are kinda floofers-like...

I wanted to continue my theme from New Leaf. I had a gloomy creepy town but the town name and character names I did not really like after a while. My old town was Achrome. I sort of grew out of the name after a while, but was too far in to reset. I took some time before new horizons came out and brainstormed some ideas and came up with Melancholia. So far I’m ok with it.

I wanted to use amble in a town name since New Leaf. Since it's an island I put aqua before amble and I couldn't be happier!

Fourside was the name of my NL town. It's an Earthbound reference, and I'm a big fan of Earthbound

I named it Odair Isle after Finnick Odair, my favorite character from the hunger games movies.

Oaktown has always been the fantasy name of anyplace i could make. Don't know where i got it from, my mind made up the name!

I went to an island name generator online! The runner up was Mapleham, but I settled on Celosia

Mine is based off a word i learnt from a Wong Fu video back when i was younger! Komorebi means the sunlight that streams through the trees and i felt like that captured the feeling i wanted my island to have hehe

I named my island Astoria...because I was laying in bed, and I had a book about the Lewis and Clark expedition (entitled 'Astoria') on my shelf, and I just said "yeah...that'll do". Lol. And I have seen that at least one other person has the same island name...which is kinda funny. 😬

I found this island name generator before the game came out, and one of the randomly generated names was Seastar. I loved the name, so I decided to go with it. Before this, however, almost every Animal Crossing town name I had was Home. That's because the first copy of Animal Crossing I ever played was a copy a friend lent me, and her town name was Home. I kept the tradition up for years, but felt something needed to change with New Horizons. An island named Home didn't seem right.

I originally wanted something cool and creative and actually decided on "Echo Island" but it didn't fit the character limit, so I had to think of something else on the spot and decided on "Maui" (since I knew I wanted to have a tropical themed island)

Fourside was the name of my NL town. It's an Earthbound reference, and I'm a big fan of Earthbound

So does this mean you named it Fiveside this time around?

In New Leaf I went with Hyrule which was terribly original (no regrets though) but in this one I wanted something that sounded fantasy-ish and far away so Narnia it was. I still like it. :)
