Short answers:
- Did you scour through the lists of villagers, weighing up the personality types, house types etc? YES.
- Did you base it on the tier system? NO.
- Did you just pick villagers that looked cute/weird/ugly/whatever? KIND OF.
Longer answers:
When I first learned I was getting a 3DS (wooo, christmas gift where someone just flat out asks what you want and then buys it for you... lol) I loaded up the New Leaf wikia and looked at all the villagers by species. I decided that my favorite animals were grouped by species initially, completely forgetting about the personality bit; thankfully I went back and streamlined my standards, since I would have ended up with a load of peppies and normals if I didn't take personality type into account.
I didn't even know the tier system existed until I joined the forums here, by which time I'd already looked at the villagers by personality type instead of species and narrowed it down to like, 5 villagers per type. The only type I was really firm on was Uchi, and I wanted ONLY Pashmina (still miss her ;_; lost her TWICE) and yeah, that was based primarily on looks. I mean, I consider whether they look like they exemplify their personality type to an extent, but everyone has their own aesthetic - so to that end, yeah it definitely mattered to me whether I considered them cute
I still have some leeway in my dreamy list since I know sticking with the exact same villagers at all times will just make the game feel stagnant for me. But for the next few months I see myself sticking with who I have.
And during the (very painful) sixteen-villager-shuffle I did the first time I lost Pashmina, I learned which of the villagers I thought I would love just aren't for me. Merengue fell flat for me, for example, as did Margie, and I thought I would love them both to death. I also wanted Rosie but figured I'd just never get the chance to have her, since I'm only a month into playing (at the time it was only a week or so, maybe, so I didn't have much of anything to trade) but I found a very generous person who pushed her my way and confirmed my suspicions that, yeah, she's pretty much an ultimate untouchable dreamie. I love cats, I love purple, I love flowers, I love her personality. She's like the poster girl for peppies. I lost her during the shuffle and I miss her SO MUCH, ugh.
So I guess for me there are "dreamies" and then "ULTIMATE dreamies" rather than a set list that never changes. I have my own tier system...? lol.
