Heya guys... I've been pondering and have decided to make a thread so people can throw their opinions my way and appease my questioning mind...

So people have dreamies... not everyone, but a lot of people do, it's not something I ever came across until I found this forum and the whole idea is very interesting to me.

I got to thinking... with so many people with very set "dreamies" lists... how did you decide who makes the cut?

- Did you scour through the lists of villagers, weighing up the personality types, house types etc?
- Did you base it on the tier system?
- Did you just pick villagers that looked cute/weird/ugly/whatever?

Or was it a mix of the above? Or was there an entirely different reason that made you decide which 10 villagers were absolutely the ones for your town?

Sate my curiosity please :)

I just chose the ones that look the best to me. Like, I didn't know Marshal, Fang, Erik, Flurry, Whitney, Muffy and Kid Cat were soooo popular when I picked them out. I just picked them because I find them cute! And one of my villagers, Goldie, is a dreamie of mine because she was my first best friend in my first town ever on WW. I was obsessed with her back then and it still remains! c:

Ive always found the deers so adorable but they're less common, only 2 have EVER lived in my town, and their colors are so cute. Diana is the cutest deer but fauna's cute too. Im just partial to pink and purple. I tend to look at the cutesy ones.

I knew I wanted to have at least one of each personality type in my town so that I can get all the PWPs. To help with picking from each type, I looked at lists of villagers on the Animal Crossing Wiki, and then picked ones that appealed to me ^_^ I like villagers that have cute or creative designs, and also ones that have a nice theme in their houses. My current dreamies are (signature is out of date):

  • Marshal: To me, he's the cutest of the smugs ^_^ I love his pouty face.
  • Molly: My favorite villager of all. Her design is simple, like a baby duckling.
  • Octavian: I really love all the octopi, and I like that Octavian actually looks cranky, as fits his personality.
  • Genji: One of my starting villagers. I'm not a big fan of jocks overall, but he has a great Japanese theme.
  • Deirdre: I wanted a deer for my town, and her house has a lovely woodland forest theme.
  • Lucky: Egyptian mummy dog? Yes! My husband and I are Stargate fans ;)
  • Ankha: Have to have the pair ^_^
  • Rosie: Just adorable. I didn't understand the hype until I met her in a dream town.
  • Merengue: Love the creative character design. My husband has Frita in her town, so I want to add Merengue to as a kind of complement to his.
  • I'm still deciding on my 10th villager...I think it's a toss-up between Diana, Julian or Muffy ^_^

I am laughing out loud at the Lucky & Ankha "have to have the pair"... mostly because I was exactly the same and even made sure they plotted right next door to each other! :D

Thanks for all the replies so far people :)

Yep, I was totally planning to plot Ankha right next to Lucky once I get her ^_^

Well, I didnt look at tier at first
Example
Goldie/ Rosie/Whitney were all villagers I remember from older gamecube verison
I also took in account for personailities I tried to get one of each for PWPS
I took in account of how they looked c:
Mira was a superbunny I thought that was amazing, Bluebear was like omg I want ( I also love sky blue ) Skye Was the most amzign shade of blue ever I thought she would be perfect with Whitney. Merengue is a recently added person I cant say she was a dreamie as first but i'm starting to really like her, Shep/Marshal were so gentlemen like I have julian in my town but I just dont care for him =/ I recall kid cat and agent s in older animal crossing I think, and their little duo was a must and carmen was a little "odd looking" I loved it o3o
My ultimate ultimate dream town If I ever get around to cycling out Bluebear/Skye
Would probably be
Skye, Whitney, Kid Cat, Agent S, Merengue, Mira, Carmen, Bluebear, Shep/ Marshal Debating I like them both equally, If I decided to only get one I would probably choose Goldie as my last

I always really liked Rosie and wanted her, apart from that I just wanted permanent villagers so I could landscape my town without worrying about house plotting. I wanted at least one of each personality type and picked villagers based on their designs that I thought would fit with my town and that I also liked after meeting them in dream addresses. Some villagers I had from the start or near start already like Mitzi and Mira and grew to like them.

I think mine choose me.

Beau, Roscoe and Bud were 3 of my starting villagers and I will never let them leave.
I still laugh at the fact I originally thought Beau was a girl.

Peaches moved in from my brother's town before he had to restart because of corruption and now she means too much to me to ever let go.

I got Cherry from street pass and even though I was mad about it at first, now I like her so much,
and she looks so cute in the cherry shirt.

Besides that I usually go for cute villagers.

I assumed Beau was a girl!

OT a little, but I have Robin living next door to me, small blue bird? I guess the Batman fan in me took over because I assumed Robin was a boy... then Bonbon asked me to deliver *her* a present because *she* would really like it... it fair blew my little mind! :o

I chose Goldie because she lived in my WW town for three days before leaving. I was very sad so I vowed to make her a dreamy.

Mint is my dreamy because I saw her in a dream town and fell in love with her. I went to the dream town to look at Blaire, but I saw Mint there and quickly changed my mind.

I chose Colton, Bob and Willow just because I find them aesthetically pleasing.

Rosie is a dreamy because I've wanted her since Wild World and I've never been able to get the elusive feline to move in.

Butch and Lily are dreamies because they were my best friends in Wild World and I'd like to be friends with them again.

I chose Paula because she was in my first NL town and I thought she was pretty cool.

Finally, I think Pierce chose me because he followed me around so much in WW and LGTTC that he just grew on me.

I don't really have a lot or really any dreamies except Tangy. She was in my first Animal Crossing town ever - the one on gamecube! She was my best friend and still is my favorite. I filled up my whole letter storage with her letters.

I definitely just go for the ones that I find adorable/endearing.

My first NL town, Feldspar, is more organic. I didn't know about this website or have any friends who played the game for much of that town's existence, so most of my dreamies there are just animals that moved in and I liked enough to keep.

Lionel, for example, is not one I ever would have picked form a list, but I grew very fond of him once he was actually in my town.
Snake was another random move-in who I found really cool. Pink ninja bunny? Sure, why not?
Annalisa moved in on her own, and I love anteater villagers, so I kept her.
Willow moved in on her own, and I also love sheep, so she stayed too.
Benjamin – well, same story. Anteaters, sheep, and dogs are my weakness in this game. I can never tell any of them to leave.
Antonio was my best buddy back in the Wild World days. I forgot to talk to him for one day and he moved out. I was absolutely crushed. So naturally I had to have him back, and got him off this forum.
Deli is just cute, I guess. I like the monkeys a lot.
Vesta was another one of my WW favorites. I could never get her in my town, so when I found her online, I jumped at the chance.
Walt moved in on his own, and I grew too attached to him to let him leave.
Patty is an homage to Tipper, another WW friend. But I need a Peppy in my town for PWPs and I like the look of Patty better, so I went with her. (In theory, anyway . . . I've been searching for weeks with no success!)

My dreamies for Flint are all villagers I love but couldn't fit in my first town. Still has nothing to do with Tier, but I have gotten all my Flint dreamies so far through online trading rather than random move-ins. Probably partly has to do with the fact that I had great luck in Feldspar with loveable villagers always moving in, but horrible luck in Flint, with almost all villagers I hated.

Honestly, I just really like the deer/goat villagers, so they all ended up being my dreamies. I have most of them now, so I'm happy.

My town's theme is cute and very pink/white/purple and my villagers' colors match perfectly. I like all my villagers so beforehand I looked through villagers to decide which to keep. At first I wasn't sure whether I'd keep a few of them so I let some go and decided to go ahead and add a few more! For Bob and Fang, they weren't originally dreamies but they fit in town and are cute and I definitely needed more guys. Also I had to see which PWPs I had and which I needed still therefore their types were perfect.

They were mostly villagers I'd grown fond of during my time playing, or liked the designs of- as long as they weren't the same species as another dreamie.

Kyle- Kyle is my favourite villager at present, and the first smug I ever had. Plus he's a wolf! How could I not?
Pierce- Pierce was kind of debatable for me, as I was kind of considering letting him go and getting Jitters (my favourite villager back in Wild World) instead. However, in the end, I decided to stick with him.
Erik- Adorable, plus he introduced me to my favourite KK song, Neapolitan. Plus he has a cabin house. Cabin houses are cool.
Deli- He was in my campsite and I immediately loved him- especially as I'd just lost Flip a few days ago. (I like monkeys. Can you tell?)
Mallary- I took a look at her design and liked her. She's one of the few snooty villagers I care for.
Vladimir- Vladimir was my favourite villager back in the GC version, where I had him in my most recent town; Hollow. I didn't think I'd like him (he was a member of what I called 'BearTown USA', plus I had Murphy- one of my favourite GC villagers), but he really grew on me. I learnt later that he'd returned later in the series, and I just had to have him back.
Portia- She was a random move-in from someone's void, but I was so glad that she was another snooty I liked that I felt obligated to keep her.
Caroline- She became my dreamie after a little bit of regret on my part. I encountered her in my campsite once; however, as Lolly was one of my chosen villagers back then, I decided to pass her up. It was only the next day that I realised, 'Hold on a second, why did I let her go?' It took me a while of lurking on threads, but I finally got her.
Pashmina- Muffy ditched Labryth and I needed a new Uchi. Her vivid blue horns kind of drew me to her.
Victoria- I kind of wanted a rather unique villager, and when it comes to peppies, she was as close as they came- plus she's a rather rare villager compared to others with unique appearances like Julian or Phoebe.

I chose mine based on color and personality. For example, I picked a male cranky and then paired him with a female snooty that had a similar color combination. Then, I made sure all the villagers looked good together.
