Half and half, if it’s too dense then it’s inconvenient for me to catch bugs, catch fish or pop balloons. It’s better to have half and half than cramming everything so it’s more convenient.
sort of in-between i think? i've watched a couple of "5-star island tour" videos and i personally don't like the cramped feeling they have. i want my town to be a place i'd actually want to live in real life, so i have spaced out pathways, with nothing too close together. i think being able to walk through my town comfortably is a priority!
I love islands that look full of just stuff. But when I try to do that it just looks like a yard sale haha. I also get annoyed with flowers because I can’t make them look good but in NH I can’t just run through them all and try again, it’s tedious I wish I could decorate!
I don't like my island looking cluttered. It's been an ongoing battle with Isabelle, and probably why I'm still 4 stars.
I also have minimal paths. I have a dark dirt path, 3 tiles wide along my "main street", which goes into a 2-tile path to the bridge behind the shops. On the other side, a 2-tile leads to a stair, with 1-tile paths breaking off to the two neighborhoods. At the top of the stairs is a broken path of light and dark dirt and terracotta that leads to my house. The rest of the island is essentially path free.
I've tried to set it up so that the most developed areas are closest to the airport, and it becomes less urban and more natural as you move back.
i like to have most space covered, but i hate super dense. i try to strategically leave squares open so they can lead the eye to the cute accents and decorations, and not get lost in a chaos
Not at all. My island layout is loosely inspired by old Gameboy titles, like the early Pokémon games and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. So I'm keeping it fairly minimalistic.
I'd say it's more on the wide-open side. I have a couple of denser areas (including some flower fields that need culling, but I've been too lazy/overwhelmed to tackle), but I'm pretty sure I can safely pop a balloon anywhere on my island without losing it to ground clutter. (Beach rock glitches and water is a different matter.)
I have wide path coming out of my airport to the plaza (3 tiles wide), a two tile dirt path on the lower level leading to a bridge and an incline, and then some one tile dirt paths in the more forest-y areas. It looked better to me to have the narrower paths there since they're more like trails, and things are generally wide enough I can still safely run (especially because I'm not trying to breed any of the flowers up there so if I destroy a bloom it's not the end of the world).
I'm actually trying to declutter my island in certain spots. Flowers for one thing, and in some spots trees. But it's a lot of work whiiiine.
I've come to terms with the fact that my island will never look "amazing" due to me just being so bad at placement. So I kind of want to just pack in as many little places or specific areas (library, gym etc.) as I can into my island.
I would consider my neighbourhood area to be pretty dense, but I did that intentionally since I felt like it made the space more "cozy". However, the area that has the major buildings and other recreational spaces are more airy and I made it spacious. I wanted it to be this way since I didn't want my island to be cluttered, but also at the same time not, not too empty.
I think it's pretty hard to strike a balance between the two, I found that it was pretty easy to get carried away with over decorating, but it takes more time to strategically leave space to ensure that it is not too cramped.
Its pretty sparse I think
For example, all my paths are straight.
I LOVE curved paths in other towns. But my town? Nope. Why? Because it makes playing "harder" because then I have to move around more to stay on the path.
I've heard guides recently say, do your island a section at a time! Yeah if you pack 100 items per screen good idea. I don't do that lol. Way I've managed so far (which really shows from playing every other animal crossing more so new leaf) I put down buildings. I put in paths. Lined paths with trees or bushes. Lined rivers with flowers. Since my paths are all a "t" shape all my left over spaces are boxes. Figure out and start filling in boxes. I have empty "rooms" I'm filling. Not evenwith a ton of stuff.
I guess I'm a fuction over form person.
I admire people who cram everything in but where do yours eyes rest? HOW DO YOU POP BALLONS?
