So possibly I am completely alone in this but for as long as I have been playing the various animal crossing titles I have always played with a male avatar character despite being female myself. Sometimes he is modelled on another fictional character from TV/ Movies/ Games but he is normally always male. When I started new horizons I contemplated briefly starting with a female character but I can't say that I particularly want to model a character on myself!? This time I used my Emmsey username as the character name (I'm known as Emm in real life) but this was a first for a character to have any relation to me in real life.

It just got me thinking how close to real life is everyone else's in game character? A lot of my AC friends villagers mirror them as much as possible with the confines of the game down to the hair colour. What they would normally wear and that kind of thing.

My avatar is as close as I can get to how I look in real life.

I'm female so I always have a female character (it would be weird for me to play a male character) but I never model them after myself. To me the characters always take inspiration from characters from movies/stories/tv shows or just random characters I came up with. I hate modelling characters after myself so I rarely would use my own hair or eye colour and certainly not my real name. I mainly play games to forget about the real world for a while and it's fun to pretend to be someone else :)

My main villager is quite similar to me. I've tried to even give her different coloured hair but it never sticks because I like her to have dark hair like mine. I always switch between the black, dark brown, and lighter brown. I dress her up in outfits I would really like in real life, and also just funny ones. My second character is a shape shifter and I change their appearance a lot! It's really fun experimenting. Right now they have the darkest option skin, turquoise hair, and dressed like a female witch (except with a sparkly purple dress instead of the robe) and they look ADORABLE. Complete opposite of me but I think it's fun to have alts to dress up differently from me, and have my Island rep be the one that represents me ^_^

I hear you, i guess this is kind of how I see it myself. I like the fact that it isn't modelled on me - it can be/ look however I'd like and I don't have to be confined by having them look a certain way like me.

I tried to make it as similar to me as possible in terms of physical appearance (eyes, haircut, etc.), but I don't wear what he usually wears, although I try to have him wear clothes I'd wear in real life even though I change them quite frequently.

Bright green hair and eyebrows, face paint designed to give her a scaled appearance... man I wish I could look like my avatar lol

Mine in pretty similar, except for the eye color. I like dressing the character in clothes I would wear in real life and find cute

Good point - I don't know many people who go out dressed like a hot dog or a goat! Have to be a bit flexible in the clothing department!

Yes the hot dog outfit is one of my favourites!

Mine looks like my new leaf character, who looked like me irl from 7 years ago, but with blue hair.

She shares my gender and skin tone. Hair and eyes I change often. I typically alternate between brown (natural color) and gray eyes.

The skin color is the only thing that matches me. I don't have blue eyes or pixie cut straight hair. The gender isn't the same either. Though at one point I did have short hair.
Edit: He wears dresses- I- don't know why. He wears them more often than I do..

A lot of my friends have designed their character just to be a persona that isn't like them! I think mine looks a lot like me because I have a really round head! Haha! I just wish they had better hair options because I have super long hair IRL. I end up throwing it in the bun style, which is pretty realistic tbh! I'd say on 1-10, it probably looks 7/10 like me.

mine is somewhat similar, but i made my hair pink when its brown irl, i want pink hair but thats money so im just gonna live out my dreams in ac

Mine doesn’t really look like me at all, black hair and pigtails. I wish I had all my character’s cuts clothes though

My character doesn't look like me at all. I've always had my character look the same across the animal crossing series, and in other games when possible (pink hair, looks super.. beat up lol) but she looks nothing like me IRL.

I've always created my characters (since I have multiple on my island) as if they were just... cute residents on my island like the animals, not like they were any representation of myself I guess

real close to my real life self. my character never wears any denim or jeans since i don't wear those irl (my autism just makes me feel completely uncomfortable to the point of being just angry as hell of having to put any on). She also has long hair or a ponytail, since those are the two hairstyles i usually have irl (i never go for haircuts, since i have bad memories of them... especially since i am a trans girl, and back in high school when i identified as male... i was FORCED AGAINST MY WILL to get haircuts multiple times.) She also has a cat nose and cat paw slippers on at all times, since i like to believe i am part cat.

The fashion sense is the same. I wear a lot of plaid, black, dress shirts, vegan leather, and Hawaiian shirts (they're cool, ok) in real life and Able's provides plenty of these.

The hair is less similar. My character has as blond mohawk whereas I shaved my head in March so I've extremely short hair. I've been wanting to bleach it blond but I'm waiting for the top to grow out further. I doubt it'll ever be long enough to sport a mohawk but we'll eventually match on colour. 😂
