I only know about Nook Shopping items being added into the game because of this forum and also I follow the AC Twitter account. However, my mom has ACNH and if it weren’t for me telling her then she would never know that items got added to Nook Shopping. I swear I remember Nook used to send you a letter letting you know items were added, but with the past few updates there has been nothing. My mom actually missed the New Years items because I forgot to tell her and nothing in game notified her. I wish they would add something back into the game because as often as I speak to my mom, I definitely won’t be able to remind her every time something new is added meaning she’ll miss out.
How are people supposed to know about new Nook Shopping items?

You're supposed to check every day, basically. I think there have been a few items that were announced via letter, but not recently. I mean, there have been more exclusive items recently, but it feels like Nintendo now just expect us to check every single day.
Which... really stinks. I've had to TT backwards to get items I was looking everywhere for... except the catalog. Because I'm still not used to ORDERING exclusive event items. It'd be swell if we could always receive letters about new items, if Isabelle could announce them, or if there was a post on the bulletin board even.

I don't think many people know this but there is a way you can get a Nook Shopping App on your nookphone. All you need to do to get it is to (according to Google) "you'll have to buy 100 items through the Nook Shopping machine in Resident Services. "
Yes PLEASE literally any of these. I love when Isabelle gives us things so give her that job back! Then if we want duplicates maybe she can say “check the Nook Shopping app to order more!”
yeah, I ended up getting this through sending a bunch of stuff to people, but it's really kinda obtuse otherwise. unles you're actively milestones farming, since it doubles up with one of those

Yeah since this game has a 5 item limit it makes the process tedious. So you had to time travel 20 times which means 20 days of buying 5 items constantly in order to get to 100 just to get the Nook Shopping App.
tbh I just got mine naturally without time travel
ordering stuff to send to people sped it up a bit though, but the 2 limit there is still damn annoying
TBH, I just assumed most people earned it already, lol. I TT for other reasons and managed to get the app randomly just through ordering items from the daily tab to fill my catalog. It feels so wrong to have to run to RS to order items with my other characters now

The same way you get everything, by checking every day. Nook Shopping app is basically a shop without a building/NPC dialogue: it has its own stock that changes every day, has limited-time items, etc. It takes like 2 minutes to check it, especially if you have the app on your phone.
Of course, adding/readding the letter from Nook or something would be nice, but it isn't necessary.

I miss the little letters! I had nearly missed out on being able to order the girls' day items because it just doesn't occur to me to check the shopping app every day. Sure it changes daily but the normal one only rotates through the same ~100 items or so, and if you're not aware of a holiday they special items can slip by you.
Maybe if they all stayed for the month they're in, it'd be fairer? I feel like the American football stuff hung around for a while but the girls' day stuff was around for less than a week (though with how I forget to check daily, maybe I'm wrong here
).
Also unless you check the website or are on twitter all the time, you wouldn't know about any special items beyond the Mario ones. I'm sure a lot of parents wouldn't want their kids to become social media addicts over a video game.
