I genuinely love Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I am excited that the game is still being supported. That said, I am also feeling a bit cautious, and I wanted to share some questions I have in good faith to see what others think.

There are a few features mentioned in the update that I am struggling to understand fully. For example, what is the intended purpose of having up to 12 players together at once? Will there be structured activities or mini-games to support that, especially for online play, or is it mainly meant to be a social free-roam feature?

I am also curious about interactions among villagers. Are there any deeper dialogue updates or changes to how villagers engage with the player or with each other? This has always been something many players care deeply about.

Another area I am unsure about is progression-related content. Are there plans for additional shop upgrades or expansions, or is the current setup expected to remain the same? Along the same lines, how will co op play be handled going forward? Will online visits still use the exact arrival and departure system, or are there any quality-of-life improvements planned there?

Finally, I am confused about how specific locations or features are meant to work with friends, such as special islands or shared activities. Will these be accessible together, and if so, how?

I know some of this may be things we discover by playing, but I personally find it easier to get excited when there is a bit more clarity. I am not trying to be negative; I am just hoping to start a discussion. I would genuinely love to hear what others think or if I missed any confirmed information.

no idea on the rest, but I'm fairly certain the bump up to 12 players capacity is just due to the switch 2's higher specs and nothing else (sadly)

EDIT: though this does bring to mind the question of cross play compatibility and limitations with those playing the switch vs switch 2 versions of the game

Yeah, that is how it is starting to look. The higher specs explanation makes sense, even if it is a bit disappointing from a gameplay perspective. Hopefully, expectations stay realistic so it does not turn into overhype.

I don’t see it as negative at all. Those are some really great questions. I hope we get answers to . I have a few questions myself about how it will all work.

I would love some deeper interactions with villagers and being able to play mini games with them.

I do wonder if we get the upgrade will we still be able to play with those that don’t get the upgrade?

It would be really great if we got some store upgrades. I still would love for Leif and kicks to get their own shops.

I do wonder about online play and how the dream islands will work. Will you get a code to go to the dream island?

It would be nice if they had an update about how things will work after the update.

Run around like a bunch of doofuses and hit each other with your bug catching nets. But now you can whack 11 friends instead of 3 friends. And now 12 friends can run through all of your flowers 3x quicker than 4 friends ever would be able to!

Unfortunately, you're still going to need to dust off your Gamecube if you want to hear those those, deep, dark emotions from your villagers.

The same. They surely would have shown off a bigger shop in the trailer if that was coming.

Good questions, and we'll find out for sure in a few weeks. In all seriousness though, I don't think anyone was expecting a big 3.0 update, so I'll take whatever we can get at this point. :)

Yeah, that is fair. I agree that if significant changes were coming, they likely would have shown them already. My questions were mostly about expectations and scope, not assuming a considerable overhaul. At this point, it does seem like a wait-and-see situation, and I am fine taking it as it comes.

Hopefully it's fun!!

I'd like to add.

What happens to our current Dream Islands? Will the new dream feature replace them or will we have both?

Just curious...For multiplayer, since it says all 12 players need to have a Switch 2 version of the game, will Orville have a "Switch 2 only" option? If a standard player were to jump in there, the host is not going to be able to bring in extra players.

I've been wanting a shop expansion since probably v1.2.0. I would definitely be happy to see one. The current shop looks so boring on the inside. I miss seeing all the shop upgrades in the previous games like New Leaf, each having a unique theme before getting to the glorious Emporium or Nookington.

Dream Addresses and Slumber Islands I would assume are going to be different entities entirely with separate codes. I completely agree on the shop expansion, I miss the more modern design of the stores like in New Leaf. If not for actual upgrades I'd settle for remodeling just the exterior like how we can change how our villagers houses or our own house looks.

Honestly the thing that I'm weirdly worried about is bulk crafting. For some reason, I have it in my mind that Nintendo will, in an attempt to continue with their "slow down" philosophy for this game, only count one item when bulk crafting.

I hope I'm proven wrong because GOD I don't want to make 3,000 tools one-at-a-time for that achievement.

I hope there is bulk buying because man, I am so sick and tired of buying Nook Mile Tickets one at a time to do villager hunting. Like, seriously, why does everything in this game have to be button-mashing?

And bulk-cooking as well, because for some reason I can totally see Nintendo forgetting about that.

And for some reason I can also see them allowing bulk buying from the Nooklings, but then going "nah you can't bulk-buy from the Nook Miles Machine".

And the reason is that their original design philosophy for this game was to slow down and enjoy it and not rush. Which, to an extent, I understand where they're coming from with that, but not having Craft-X, Cook-X, Buy-X is just frustrating and not exactly fun.

We'll all have to wait and see, but I'm hoping there's a lot more features and improvements coming that the 3.0.0 trailer just left out. Outside of Slumber Islands and the Hotel, they didn't really show a whole lot in the trailer. Will there be enough to warrant the version v3.0.0 label rather than something smaller like v2.1.0 or v2.2.0?

In comparison, the 2.0.0 update was massive, adding in a plethora of new features and improvements.

Version 2.0.0 (Not counting smaller QOL and new furniture)
  • The Roost + Brewster
  • Kapp'n + Kapp'n island tours.
    • Gyroids
    • Vines
  • Ladders
  • Outside storage containers
  • Outside ABD machines
  • Group Stretching.
  • Harv's island market/expansion
    • Harriet
    • Reese and Cyrus
    • Tortimer
  • Town Ordinances
  • Home exterior changes.
  • Ceiling furniture
  • Custom Fencing
  • Cooking
  • Farming
  • Wall Accents
  • Walk through narrow spaces around furniture.
  • Home visits from villagers and vice versa.
  • Pro camera

Version 3.0.0 (Not counting smaller QOL and new furniture)
  • The Hotel
  • Slumber Islands
  • Virtual console (Similar to what the Gamecube had)

It would be so so nice if they added a ton of secret features for 3.0 cause you're right, 2.0 had so much content in it that the naming scheme for 3.0 with the features we already know seems silly in comparison. I'd love for extra stuff but I'm happy with what they've promised already for this new update

I am hoping for room-size expansions for our homes because with so much new furniture coming, we need more space to display it. It bothers me that there is a limit called "The Room is Full, so you cannot add anything else," when, in reality, there is so much more room to add more stuff. I hope they increase the home space limit, because it is so annoying when you're trying to fully decorate your room, only to run into a restriction like that.

I would LOVE them to add the ability to kick out a neighbor that you dont like or want anymore.
I've asked the web about this and I've read that kicking out villagers and replacing them with a 'different class villager' *like a sister for a grumpy etc etc* gets you different recipes.
I've been trying to boot out a particular resident for a year and she will not leave! im even top level friends with her and keep giving her gifts and she's just being stubborn lol! I've even tried being mean to her and then best friending her again!
:/
