There was mention of an official giveaway of the galar starters with the hidden abilities. Did I miss that?

I think you need to place some pokemon in pokemon home, then you can get the starters through the 'gift' tab in pokemon home (I did this in the phone app so idk if it's the same on the switch app)

So when you login to the phone app, in the 'your room' tab click on the button at the bottom of the screen. This should bring up a few options including 'mystery gifts'. I think you need to place a pokemon in Pokemon Home when the event is active (so pokemon placed previously don't count).

Yes, unfortunately. A lot of the 'gifts' they send have to be claimed in the mobile app. I'm in the same boat. HOME crashes my phone since its a bit on the older side.
