Hokko Life (Animal Crossing Clone for Steam)

that looks kind of cute! i like the mailman (?) bear character aha

It really seems to lack the spirit of Animal Crossing. The big point of Animal Crossing is the characters and the world. The characters seem bland so far in design and there's nothing on personalities yet. There's no expressions in the faces of the animals when they wave or anything, just the VFX.

It's one dude, so I've gotta give him props, but he's being pretty blatant here with how much it looks and acts like Animal Crossing (trains, house and expansion, the type of plants and furniture, the animals, the shells on the beach, etc.). He needs to give the game a bit more soul to make it stand out. I'm all for a PC indie Animal Crossing game, but it still needs to differentiate itself from the actual Animal Crossing games.

Looks pretty bland and kinda looks like what it is, a cheap Animal Crossing knock off. The artstyle makes it look like one of those super low budget kids games you find in the bargain bins or in a charity shop, it's all just very generic looking and a bit 'off'. There's nothing unique looking about it, the people and animal models look like they could be in a plethora of other games where the devs didn't give a crap.

Being able to customise furniture with cushion placement is about the only positive thing I can really say, otherwise it's just a soulless looking Animal Crossing I have no desire to play. I can't imagine paying money for that. Even if I didn't have Nintendo consoles to play AC, I think I would still give this a hard pass.

I hate this phrase since it's so meaningless, but it really does lack the """charm""" *vomits* of Animal Crossing.

While the game might turn out good, it's hard to root for something so creatively bankrupt.

The graphics are disgusting, the characters look dull, and the whole concept is a shameless rip-off...

but it's also kinda cute. lol

Its like the pepsi to animal crossing's coca-cola. Its not bad, but if youre going to spend money on a sim game like that then just go with AC.

Not judging tho, I can totally see why people would buy this/

I posted in another thread about it, but I dislike how the animal villagers and graphics look and it doesn't appeal to me. Knowing that it's one person's effort, I wouldn't want to insult it and I hope it does okay, I just wouldn't want it.

It looks cute and it's not a complete rip-off, so I'd root for it. Everything needs some tweaking, especially the graphics, but the dev has some real experience so I hope early access allows him to turn this into something worth playing.

It might turn out to be a good alternative to Animal Crossing (highly doubtful), but it's hard to tell based on looks alone.

The game doesn't look really bad at all. Just need to tweak some stuffs and it will probably be a good AC alternative game with its own special charm, but i don't think it will ever be as great as AC

I like the game, it looks like it has more then other games. I may buy it if it's cheap.

Exactly. I don't see myself dropping $30 on it. Especially with having the New Horizons. For one person working on it, it looks great. I just wish there were more clones for Nintendo IPs that don't have games coming out.(Like F-Zero)

Looks cute, a little on the nose but it could have potential.
I put in in my Steam wishlist in case I hear anything interesting about it.

One of the reasons why I'm so invested in the AC franchise is because I feel like it is the whole package for me. I love the design of the villagers, the furniture sets, the NPCs, etc. I also love how it has a huge online community already. I feel like a lot of AC-inspired games look really fun as well but there's always some aspect of it that just doesn't have that AC charm and doesn't hit the mark for me enough to continue playing it for years to come. Usually for me it comes down to aesthetics. While this game looks cute and the house customisation options look pretty cool, there's just something about it that's off for me. Like with My Time In Portia, if it wasn't for the graphics I probably would have bought it but instead I didn't and still play Stardew to this day. If this game was a multiplayer game and I had at least 2 friends to play with, I would buy it just to play with them though :')

I feel really bad for the developer of this game. People have been making fun of him for shamelessly ripping off Animal Crossing. In reality, most games are shameless rip offs of someone else who had the idea first. Lots of people want an Animal Crossing type of game on PC. I'm not a huge fan of the graphics either, but I don't think all the criticism going towards him for starting a project that he thought was fun is warranted.

I do feel bad for him, but other than gardening and furniture customization, he hasn't done anything to give it its own charm. Temtem is a rip off of Pokemon, but the battle mechanics are different, it has its own designs, and it has the gimmick of being an MMO.

However, Hokko Life isn't using any unique animals or theme. The designs for the characters are generic at best and it looks so much like Animal Crossing. It's lacking its own unique flavor to set it apart. The train looks a lot like the train from the original game. The house interiors look identical. Much of the furniture (like plants) are identical. The shells in the beach, sand texture, fish shadows, the flower happy VFX on the villagers... It all looks waaaay too much like Animal Crossing.

He needs to make it stand out. I'm all for an Animal Crossing-style game on PC, but if you're going to do it, you need to set it apart.

The characters and animals look very disturbing...The humans look like actual babies....super-textured babies. In AC that's kind of toned down so we can imagine any age we want. Also why are the animals emoji mascots?

I just cant get over how silly the living beings look.

Not trying to be rude and harsh to the dev who worked hard, but it bothers me too much

It's perfectly fine to discuss and talk about the game, compare it AC,etc.
If the developer wants to make a game thats inspired by Animal Crossing? Thats great! I won't lie, I've also wanted to make a game like animal crossing before.

Now being disrespectful or negative directly to the developer because it's "not Animal Crossing" or simply because you don't like it?
That is 100% NOT okay.
