I'm trying to make a gridded map of my second town for planning purposes, but I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out the tile sizes for my river :( I'm pretty sure I've counted everything correctly so far, but I have no idea how wide the rivers are supposed to be (I know the size varies in parts), so I can't tell if I'm counting correctly or not.
I feel like the majority of the river, when it's straight is about 4 tiles across, but I'm in a spot where- if I counted everything else correctly- the river is only 3 tiles across.

I know that's confusing, so I guess my question is: Does anyone know if there's a set number of tiles a river is/can be?

This is what I was referring to. I was having trouble counting my acres that are split by the river, because I wasn't sure how far across it went. I ended up figuring it out, though, and now my map is 100% accurate c:

i'd pay you like 100tbt to do that for my town ;_ ;

would make placing paths down 10x easier

That is an incredible idea for planning! Do you mind if I make one of my own?

Hello! I don't mind at all, especially as I took the idea from other AC:NL players xD A lot of people do this, I think!

Oh gosh! Honestly, I'd love to if I could, because I find it super relaxing. But it takes a lot of time with placing tiles and digging holes to get accurate counts and measurements. It's really not hard to do, and doesn't take as long as it looks! I'd totally recommend giving it a shot, because it really helps with planning! The map I made for my main town isn't as accurate as this map I just made, but even with a the mistakes it's been a huge help. It's not 100% complete by any means, but this is sort of what it starts to look like after a while!

The bright pink is pretty obviously my main paths. Purple squares are various PwP's. Yellow are lampposts. The light blue beneath the station is a fountain. The slightly darker blue next to Ash's house is a well. Black squares are rocks (or spaces I miscounted that I don't actually have room for). Dark green are trees, light green are hedges, and the brown squares are either single tile paths, natural paths, or they represent the space right next to my cliffs c:

Oh, I forgot to mention also that I did it all without saving the game, because it's a lot easier to quit when you're done and avoid going back to pick up like, 20 acres worth of tiles x_x

well could u give me the blank version of the grid? ;o

That takes some dedication right there... I just want to make a tiny one to put on a sign by the Train Station. ^^;

Honestly, what always takes the longest to me (or so it feels) is filling in the ocean and river with blue. The rest of it can go fairly quickly. I'd say it too me maybe an hour or two, with several pauses in-between to work on other things or recount areas.

Wait!! how many squares is a villager house+ their fence?

Also the train station, re-tail and the town hall? ; n ;

did you do it in excel or a spreadsheet program? I'd think that'd make it easier to fill in the colors. just select multiple tiles and change the cell color.

actually with excel (but not google sheets) you could apply conditional formatting and tell it to automatically change any tile with the letter o (for ocean) to blue and r (for river) to a lighter blue which might be kinda cool.

I tried once. Maybe I'll give it another go on the weekend when I have the most free time. It looks super helpful, but I'm just an impatient chicken. (I want to replace my bridges, but there's one I'm concerned about in terms of space. I know it will fit, but on the off chance it doesn't, I hesitate to demolish it. xD)
