Help with 2 users on same switch

So last night my wife signed in with the main account and created the island and all. I was thinking I could use the same account, sign in and create a second user like in past games, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So I created a second profile for the switch and didn't link it to a nintendo ID. The game (which is digital) says that user can't play it because they didn't buy it. So I tried to link the account to my Nintendo ID but it only lets me link 1 account per Nintendo ID. Do I have to buy the game again for both of us to play it? If not how do I go about having us both play it? Thanks for help.

No unfortunately that's not an option! Even if you buy a second copy of the game, it won't let you play on the same console. From what I have researched, I don't think the Nintendo ID matters but somebody please correct me if I am wrong!

You will need to buy a whole other console if you want to have two copies. Otherwise you'll have to share the island that your wife created!

Does she have her own switch? Is the one you are using your own/considered her non primary?

I made a second user on my Switch and created a second character on the same island no problem. I also don’t have a Nintendo account tied to it. I am playing on a digital copy.
