So I've had New Horizons since the day it came out via a digital downloaded version
of the game. But now, I'm debating whether or not to restart my island in order to actually
"play the game", if that makes sense. Right now, I've done zero work on my museum other than
getting the bugs and/or fish needed in order to open the museum for progress reasons,
I haven't gotten Redd, and have barely seen the other travelling NPCs. Not to mention,
I also have a lot of furniture, NMTs, bells, hybrids, DIYs, and dreamies...

I'm really stuck on whether or not I reset so that I can do all those things from the start,
and not feel overwhelmed as a result. To the people who have restarted, was it worth it
in the long run? And to the people who haven't restarted, why haven't you?

Please help.

This can be a tough spot, but I was there a few weeks ago. If playing the game right now makes you unhappy because of the state of your save data, id honestly go ahead and restart. DIY's are easy to rack up on especially with the message bottles. If you continue to post on this forum, you can get more tbt, and then sell them to other forum members for nmt. As for the dreamies, you can always island hop to find some of them or buy them off people.

Thats just my take on it, but its ultimately your decision! :)

To unlock redd, you need to donate 60 things in total to the museum.

Ahh, I appreciate the input! My friend has offered to hold onto everything to me so I can restart safely and not lose those items for good, so hopefully she doesn't scam me!!

If you want to restart and you think you would be able to enjoy the game and your island more after doing so, maybe you should.
I have not restarted my island. I started playing on release day and I've briefly considered restarting in the past due to wanting a different island name or map, but I've really grown to love my island. I don't plan on restarting because I feel like if I do, I'll end up where I was with new leaf where I was constantly restarting my town.
I want my island to last and age with the game!

Honestly, I restarted because I felt like I was progressing too quickly. If I was in your situation, I probably wouldn't restart unless you are itching to dreamie hunt again. Especially if you want to just end up keeping all of your stuff anyway.

I guess the question is if you feel like you would miss anything from your current save file. I feel like ac is a game that allows you to take your time, you don't need to play a certain way and you can change the way you play from day to day. Maybe a restart is needed to mentally change gear, so it depends more on what you want to do. I have never restarted an ac game, but I have restarted other for more "efficient" runs, when the early game actually matters. But when you have already passed the "waiting one day for every new event" of the early game, it would perhaps be more annoying to sit through it again? But if you felt like you missed that part if you time traveled, it might be fun

In the end, maybe you have already made your decision. You want to reset, that's why you are asking, perhaps? If you want to restart, because you now know how you want to play, and to it whole heartedly, then maybe a restart is needed

I decided to restart today. I thought about it for a while and the urge just wouldnt go away, and i got sick of thinking about restarting every time i opened the game. I would say to give youself some time to think it through, maybe you wont feel like this a few days from now, but if the thought keeps coming and bothering you, maybe you would feel better starting over then.

I think it should be a good idea to reset your island. In French, we say "to see new blood" (idk in English but it means to begin with a new glance, free). I did it too ; was TT (not too much) and was stressed about the theme I wanted to give my city. Finally, I just forgot to enjoy the game ! That's sad. So I think it's maybe a idea to consider. Less pressure on your shoulders, maybe more fun to begin the adventure again...

I couldn't ever really bring myself to restart, mostly because I bothered upgrading my boyfriend's house for him, and an alt character for extra themed rooms. Unlocking terraforming the first time was my entire goal and to repeat that whole lengthy process, I just, egh, can't.

I was feeling stagnant, though, and moderately annoyed at my island. I ended up "destroying" everything, terraforming about 80% of my island and spending a few million bells to rearrange. It was totally worth it's own kind of restart. Having my recipes and items still on hand allowed me to better take my time considering really minor yard details and the like, so I've been a lot happier with my island as of late. And I still have a whole bunch of little areas I'm looking forward to filling in!

Oh I feel you, I’ve been in your exact same shoes. Got the game on launch day, eager to play, didn’t really pay attention to the island I chose, settled for oranges(hate them) as native fruit and rolled with the game. I got pressured to get new villagers very soon and started TT a lot( which was funny, cause I’ve never TT in any other AC game, maybe a little bit in WW when I was a kid and someone showed me it was a thing) and very soon my island was filled with unwanted villagers, shop already upgraded and nothing achieved in the way I want to achieve it in a game like animal crossing. I followed my gut and reset, knowing that it could go better or worse honestly. I gave myself a little rule: don’t reset like crazy before even starting the actual game. Found my perfect island on the very first try, prayed for any fruit but oranges(got peaches) and two decent starting villager. I got it all and it only went better! I even found Raymond as my first campsite, I really thought it was destiny! If you are willing to put the work on it, live with a 20 spaces inventory for a while and crappy tools, than do it! It really could be worth it! I love my island and my villagers to pieces now, I could never reset again, I know this will be my forever island! 🌸
