Having 2nd thoughts about Wolfgang and thinking of letting him go for Merry

So Wolfgang was my NL starter and he remained my permanent resident there.
I was lucky enough in NL to end up with two pretty popular starters (Wolfgang and Merengue). Back then I had no idea about any AC forums or communities so I didn't even know they were popular until months later.
When I was starting NH, I had no intentions of getting Wolfgang... but fate had it that I ran across him on a Nook Miles island. It was a nostalgic moment for sure since I haven't touched NL in well over a year and I thought it was fate that brought us back together (silly, I know).
He's been living on my Island ever since and we've become pretty good friends (I have his photo already).
However, when it comes to my two crankies, I prefer Boyd a lot more. A part of me wonders if I'm just keeping Wolfgang because he's popular and kind of brings status to my Island since some of my dreamie villagers are not popular at all. That, plus the fact that I had him back in NL kind of makes him more special.

Now, when I first started NH, I was really hoping to invite Merry since I got her amiibo card in a blind pack and was ecstatic when I found her.
I find her super adorable. However; I also have Peggy (also an amiibo invite) who is one of my current favorite villagers so I definitely won't be letting her go.
So here's where the dilemma comes in:

Merry:
Pros: I love her and she actually reminds me of one of my irl cats, Dotty, with her big eyes, cream color and little fangs. I did initially have my mind set on inviting her. I do have her amiibo card so I can potentially infinite her at any time.
Cons: I've got Peggy already and the peppy personality can be a bit extreme at times. I love a lot of the peppy designs but I'm not the biggest fan of their personality traits.

Wolfgang:
Pros: Had him in NL and encountered him on a Nook Miles island. Brings back lots of memories of playing NL. I also don't have his amiibo card so if I were to let him go, there's a possibility I wouldn't be able to invite him back. He brings something new to the Island being the only wolf villager.
Cons: In terms of design, he's not really my favorite and I find him a bit bland. Also, I do wonder at times if I'm more drawn to him just because he happens to be more popular and I had him in NL so I kind of feel obliged to keep him.

I have Merry and I love her! She kinda reminds me of a cat version of myself! She's adorable from design to her taste in shows *spoiler alert* she loves anime! The only con I have is her house interior but that's a minor sacrifice for her! I'm kinda a bad person to go by since I don't care for the wolves as a whole.

Straight up gonna say Im not a big fan of wolves in general so that might influence my response haha

I think Merry's face has so much personality so Id probably pick her over Wolfgang If you eventually get tired of having 2 peppys on ur island u could replace one and since you have their amiibos you could always bring them back!

Merry is adorable, but I also do like Wolfgang. The issue between the two is that they’re polar opposites. But if I had to choose between the two, I think I would probably choose Merry since I think she’s more unique. The wolf villagers tend to look quite similar with one another, whereas I feel the cats have a bit more variety.

I can’t comment on their house interiors though since I’m not sure how they look.

Merry = Meme queen. You’ll never stop laughing at that silly stupid face. But Wolfgang is cool. I love Wolfgang. He’s so cool. In fact, I have it in my mind that he’s younger than most crankies because he’s so cool. I dunno why. Lol.

Awww. This is actually a very cute approach when deciding villagers. I’ll use this method too when I’m torn. I, for sure, would go to the ends of the earth to get Rudy back so I can throw a snowball to his face (I know that’s not possible but whatever). I miss his face so much. I regret ever letting him go. I have to find him again before Christmas.

I love the wolves but I think Merry is super cute. You seem to be having doubts about keeping Wolfgang and honestly that would be enough for me. When I visit islands looking to fill my plot, I grab whoever gives me that excited feeling, if that makes sense. For example, I ran into Hornsby and Tank today. I think both are kinda cool but a part of me didn't really care either way. I ran into Merengue and got so excited and just had to have her! Not because she's popular but because of her strawberry horn lol

Also, you already have his photo! I think it's time to say goodbye and let others have a chance at your island but that's just me, I don't really go for permanent residents.... except maybe Scoot.

Personally I'd keep Wolfgang. I don't like Merry's design at all, but that's a personal opinion. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you only have one cranky villager (Wolfgang). I don't know if having one villager of each personality is important to you (dialogue options, reactions, etc.), but if you feel you'll connect more with Merry, then go with your gut.
