I've noticed some of you have more than 1 town. Do you need 2 game cartridges to do this?

I am considering getting another copy of the game, so I can have 2 towns.

But if I time travel in my second cartridge, will it affect the weeds/villagers etc. in my first cartridge, if that makes sense?

Is it worth having 2 towns? I think it sounds fun.

ooh i only have 1 game but i really want 2.
You'd have to be careful though, if you already spend a lot of time on your first game to the point it interferes with work sometimes you probably shouldn't get a second one.

If you time travel by changing the 3ds time and not changing it back when you switch cartridges then yeah it'll affect your game. However if you TT by telling Isabelle her time is wrong then no it won't!

I have 2 physical copies and one 3DS. I TT on the 2nd copy {using the in-game clock, not the 3DS one}, and it doesn't affect my 1st copy, which I don't TT on.

I'd only recommend getting a second town if you want to use it for cycling or if you're completely/mostly done with your first town. Paying with two incomplete can drain you. =w=

If you change the 3DS's clock, then yes, it will affect both. If you just ask Isabelle, then it will only affect the one game you asked her in.

Ah, I didn't know you could change the time in the game by talking to Isabelle. :) Thanks.

And yeah, I was thinking of Cycling. Mainly to get an All Penguin town.

I have 2 towns. It's worth it you can

Get villagers from them
Streetpass a lot
Get bells and items
Have 20 villagers

And do what you want!

Whenever you start up, just select "I need help first," {after Isabelle does the spiel with the date/time and asks if you're ready to go} and you'll be brought to a menu where you can do one of the following:

-Set the time
-Destroy your house
-Recreate the town
-Go back to previous menu

:)

I started a second town not long ago and I don't regret it (other than spending 7ish hours resetting for a good map). When I get bored with my main town, I swap for my second. I play them both about an hour each a day instead of spending two hours on just one, is all.

Problems with both copies on one 3DS.
You can't transfer the items between games unless you find someone to help you online. Move the bells to their town and than save/quit. Load up the other town and than pick up the bells. It can take some time to move items.
If you have a digital and cartridge copy you have to be careful with street pass tags. Make sure to open the game that is working on the badge when the green light flashes. I lost a lot of tags early on.

Just use the in game clock to change the time. Setting your new town on a different time or season is helpful. Right now my 2nd town is in May and it's nice to escape winter. Having the clock about 6 hours behind is helpful too.

I would really love to have a second copy and use it solely for cycling. It would be great to help other people get their dreamies without risk of losing my own in the process (cycling out one or two of my 10 villagers, oy vey!) but I wouldn't be able to maintain it as its own individual town. My main town takes up enough of my time and effort as it is, and I think that the "fun factor" of the game would be cheapened significantly if I were to try to run two towns simultaneously. I think I'd end up going through the motions as an obligation rather than playing because it's something I enjoy... but that's just me. Some people love having different themed towns, and stuff like that. It all comes down to what kind of player YOU are.

I have four. I have two systems now though, when I only had one I tried to have three towns at one point but got a bit overwhelmed. I think two would be my max in one system. Right now I have two cartridges and two downloads, one of each in each system.
I like it because I like doing different things with each town, I pick a "feel" that I'd like to aim for and its nice working on different things in each town with different villagers. I stick to dreamies because I hate moving in new villagers all over my landscaping (even with resetting its still a big hassle) so its just easier to not bother letting anyone in and out once all of them are set.
Time traveling is tricky, technically changing the system date DOES effect both towns, but only if you open each one up on the changed date. Make good use of the game notes feature built into the system (the little pencil at the top of the home screen) to keep track of which town is on which date and you should be fine as long as you fix the date for the one you're not tting in at the moment. Easier still is to only change your dates using the in game clock as opposed to the system clock.
In my main two towns I only change the date in the system, and I have them set to be six months apart from each other so I'm always seeing a different season (eventually all 4 towns will be set to 3 month intervals so I'll have one town in every season give or take at any given time, but for now two towns are not developed AT ALL and will probably end up reset)
My two knock around towns in my second system are mostly used for cycling villagers to sell trade or give to myself for my own dreamies in my other towns right now, and I do all their time changes in the game clock so I can keep them timed separately from each other and cycle one town without worrying about keeping the date written down in the other if I'm trying to hold someone in boxes or something.
I definitely think its worth it, especially if you're main town is most of the way developed because its fun building a town from the ground up and getting a feel for a whole new map and layout and everything.

If you do decide to get another town I would definitely recommend getting a download in addition to your cartridge if you can, it feels like a bit of a waste at first since you'll never be able to resell it, but its a lot easier than having to swap cartridges and keeping track of which is which, when I had the three towns in one system they were all cartridges and it was very annoying after a while swapping out if I was trying to have a sit down and do daily tasks in each town real quick, even putting them in my carry case it always felt like I was losing one to the couch or forgetting which was which

If you're nearly/already complete with your first town, you can get a second copy which allows you to create a whole new town, have new villagers (that didn't make it into the 10 Dreamies for your first copy), and continue on the fun :d

I have two towns, and I originally used the second cartridge as a temporary cycling town. Then I erased it and began to create a horror themed town (still a WIP //cries//), and I'm working from there, but it's a hiatus.
Then I realised how terrible my first town was, so I demolished it and made a new town to build on.

At first, having two towns would be fun and exciting, but then after some time it'll probably be a bit of a nuisance to check up on both of them. Especially for me, since I've got school and homework in the way, and I only have limited time to actually play on one of my towns.

I have 2 towns, but only 1 3DS because my other broke.
Confessing here, I haven't played it since I bought it. I'll probably keep it though. I'm not a good cycler.....

I have 2 towns, since my first one is almost complete and I'll be dream updating Tenshi from time to time :) I'm currently working on Starpass and it's definitely fun since you get to plan out something new and get more dreamies :3 I've already got two in there, Ankha and Poppy (which I'm still plot resetting T.T).

I did it. :) Just purchased the cheapest AC:NL I could find on eBay (but still expensive enough).

Can't wait to start Cycling. I feel like I'll Cycle until I'm happy and then put serious effort into the new town slowly, after resetting the map etc. so there aren't horrible patches of grass everywhere.

I enjoy having a second game, I literally do whatever I want, I even let my boyfriend play it!! Haha I plan to cycle/auction/giveaway the villagers I get, and I like having a second copy to get more items I am looking for! My second town also proved its worth so quickly, as my favorite villager moved from my first town, and when I went to my other town to get a villager to move to mt first town, he moved to my second town! Ie fang moved from first to second. So I can reclaim him which makes me very happy!
