Have you noticed the game's popularity falling?

Well, I think for starters, this game attracted an unusual number of casual players that would have probably not picked it up if not for the quarantine and current unusual circumstances.
I don't think it's the lack of content, per se - more so the style of the game. It may be fun at first, but I can see people who are not fans of the franchise getting bored eventually. AC will not appeal to everyone long-term and I'm absolutely fine with that.

i haven’t really noticed but things do seem to be calming down a bit, at least until the next big update ;u;

Like people have already said, I think it's the new fans are leaving once they tt through all the content and are ready to move onto the next game. Anyone else who likes AC games that has put it down probably is satisfied with their island right now until future events, furniture, or content is added so they can add new stuff to their house/island.

i've noticed many of my friends who bought the game, due to hype most likely, have stopped playing a lot too!

I have still been playing AC while not being a previous fan. But with new games coming out and seeing myself return to work and school soon I do question how much I can actually play.

After decorating and getting my villager giveaways rolling I probably won't be able to play as much as I am now. Probably enough to do the daily chores but meh we'll see.

I think it's because most everyone has everything unlocked now and their towns are all just about finished, so they only go on for the daily tasks, if that. The hype has def settled and there is a huge lack of content, but I'm sure as more updates come, there will be at least a little but more for everyone to do

Yesterday there was a post I liked the wording "its not the lack of content but its different content". We were never guarantee anything but there were expectation and assumption made. Yes it is weird that certain thing that have yet to be included such as diving. It not like they haven't added new features for example crafting, everything in terraforming, being able to decorate outside and different events. It possible that people haven't connect those. Just as people might of not connected to multiple player mini game or diving.

I like that wording too, I think it is a very fair way of putting it. I agree that there were certain expectations about what the game should include, but I think it is fair to assume that staples of the game that have been present since the beginning of the game should also make a reappearance. Katrina and fortune telling, for example, has been in the game since Game Cube. Same goes for Copper and Booker. I don't see a reason as to why they could not reappear in New Horizons either. If it's for progression purposes, why not leave a hint in a direct for in villager dialogue for players to discover? Why wait and maybe add it while the player base loses interest?

I would also agree that it seems that people have not connected with the new direction that the Animal Crossing games have appeared to take on, which seem much more to me like a decoration game like before. Many of the new features such as terraforming or being able to decorate outside help to support that kind of play style. The emphasis on decoration, I feel emphasizes the lack of furniture. At least if the other features were brought back, players who don't love decoration could have other things to do instead and players who love decoration would still have decoration to enjoy.

I actually haven't noticed it that much. There's definitely not as much hype surrounding the game as there was when it was released but I still see random tweets go viral all the time. Also everyone on my friend list is still playing, even my friends who never played the game before this. It does make sense that interest would dwindle though, especially for the more casual players who just picked the game up because of quarantine.

That's to be expected actually as ACNH won't really be everyone's cup of tea in terms of gameplay and style, the ones that only got it because of the hype probably already moved on to other games, but it still is a pretty popular game imo, it's just not for everyone

This was bound to happen. Animal Crossing is for a very specific type of person, some love it, others don't understand the appeal. Some people were inevitably going to try the game and then realize its not for them, which is totally fine. On the flipside, its shown Animal Crossing to so many people who I am glad to have in the Animal Crossing fandom, so i'm really happy it experienced a spike in popularity
