I wish they let you change your skin at shampoodles or the beginning of the game or something ^^ I am a fair skinned person and so I like my character to look like me. Sometimes I leave my 3ds away for awhile and suddenly I'm tan, which I don't like. But other people also have a dilemma where they take awhile to maintain a certain shade to look like them. Just kind of unnecessary game mechanic I feel. I wish they'd change it to make it easier for all of us ^^

i have a tan and i think it's adorable 
When I first got New Leaf, I had the darkest tan available because I'd played the game so much. I didn't like it, because it didn't look great with my character's outfit, and I didn't want to change it. In the end I had to just wait until the end of Summer came. Even carrying a parasol or umbrella around with me didn't work, because I always wanted to do fishing or bug catching on the island.
I'm not letting my character tan this year, now that I know about it.

I'm really light-skinned in real life so when I got a tan last year, I wanted it to go away SO bad because I wanted my character to look more like me. This year, I will not have a tan. xD

i would like to tan but i think i'm on at the wrong times of day or something :T i think it's annoying that it's so hard to acquire one and wish they would find some way to let people customize as they wish.

I probably will have a slight tan after today because I've been out in the sun for hours now. I'll probably try and carry and umbrella or wear a hat to avoid getting a really dark tan this year but I quite like to get a light to medium tan. The darker shades look really odd with my blond hair, haha. Even if I do become really tan though, I won't mind too much. I just might have to change my hair colour.
On a side note, I think the pasty white characters being able to tan their skin to the point where it becomes dark is very unrealistic, even for Animal Crossing. In future games, you should be able to select your skin colour at the beginning and the maximum tan should only be a few shades darker, enough for it to be quite noticeable but not so much that your skin colour completely changes.
