Have you ever been cheated on a trade?

I haven't been ripped off bell-wise, but time-wise sure. I was trying to buy throwing beans which led me to dealing with the worse trader ever. He just egged me on that the trade was totally going to happen for hours and it took him around three to just add my friend code when he was actively on the forums. When I finally got him to trade in my town, he immediately idled for over 40 minutes at my train station. I'd rather buy the beans overpriced by 50 million then deal with that again.

It's nice to see that most trades go smoothly.I have done so many trades.I have had over 800 visiters in my town, and I would bet that more than half were trades. No one has ever tried to cheat me.I have had people who were known scammers try to make a trade with me, and I just ignored them.My first few times trading, I was sooo nervous.I had heard so many horror stories.lol.

This comment interests me because I'm imagining how I would have handled it.

I do not have any throwing beans. I guess you wanted them very badly.

I think I would have hit the Wi-Fi switch. The idling part usually happens if a disconnect is about to happen. (And it typically will end up as a disconnection with the image of a Rosetti.)

That trader must have wanted company. That "40 minutes" is a long time to be idle. Perhaps he went from one room to another. (Like as if he went to the kitchen to get something to drink and/or eat.)

In a situation like what you described, it's best to cut the connection. (If it's worth having in the first place, this idle nonsense would not happen.)

omg why is this making me laugh so hard... LOL

but for me i haven't had someone cheat me out of a trade yet. i've recently started trading on here, but i used to be more active on acc and it was okay for the most part. sometimes i get really nervous when buying/trading for villagers though, so i almost make sure that the villager is in that town unless otherwise stated (like they want me to drop it at their main town or something)

Yes, I've been scammed. I've done hundreds of trade here on TBT. This one time I went to a town to buy a full mushroom set. First he made me leave the train station and go to a very small area to drop my bells. After I paid, and he still hadn't dropped his items...he went ahead and saved the game. I should've flipped my wifi switch but didn't. Then he went afk for like 15 minutes, in hopes I'd leave I think. I kept insisting he give me my set, and he finally led me to his beach where I got only 5 of the pieces. He claimed he thought it was the whole set and didn't have the other pieces. I gave up after that. It was only after I looked at his TBT profile that I realized he had consistently tried to scam others. Moral of the story: always check profiles first, and if they want to save after getting your money, flip your wifi!

This was when I first started trading, so I assumed that all trades took this long or were as inconvenient.

He wasn't talking much in my town, he was just standing near my train station/tree the entire time. I was ridiculously patient because I assumed he was multitasking and trolls wouldn't bother with time-wasting in a game like Animal Crossing. After 40 minutes I finally got the hint and kicked him out. In reality, he was just being annoying and never had any beans to sell in the first place.

well when i was resetting i had someone hold over 10 million bells and 200 hybrids but they never gave them back to me. The first few days they were holding them they interacted with me but then stopped and haven't been online for weeks. They had a good rating too so i trusted them but i guess i shouldn't have

I've never been cheated, nor cheated anyone.

Unfortunately, most of my trades have been done on other sites, so I have a low wifi rating and no-one on TBT wants to trade.

Not while here, no I haven't. I was cheated/almost cheated about a week back though on Reddit. I was going to buy a Marshal that was said to be almost 100% original for about 10m. She wanted 20mil for him originally but since he wasn't 100% original she said she'd take 10mil for him.
The girl said she almost never talked to Marshal and that he should be almost original. I went to her town and dropped the 10mil bells as quickly as I could, then grabbed Marshal and told her to end the session. She instead of ending the session she "flipped" the switch. She came back on Reddit and said "I'm soooo sorry, you did all that work and now it's all gone. Do you want to just come and grab Marshal for free?! I don't need the bells"
I was also in a rush because Fang was waiting for me, so I told her to hold Marshal for me for a few hours and I'd come back and do it all again. She still offered him for free so I just went and grabbed him. I ofcourse didn't feel right about just getting Marshal for free so I grabbed a bag full of bells, about 1.5m and dropped it as a form of "tip".
After it was all said and done, Marshal moved in and it turns out she lied. Marshal was not original AT ALL. ALL of his furniture was gone, even the sloppy table. I was furious, but I got him for 1.5m so I can't complain. Just to think that the girl wanted 20mil for a 0% original villager got my blood pumping, so I'm now sooo glad that whole ordeal happened though. ^.^ I'm currently working on restoring Marshal's house to its former glory.

She technically never lied. She said she never talked to him, she didn't promise anything about the house.

She lied when she said she almost never talked to him. When you almost never talk to a villager, some furniture remain if not all. ALL of his furniture was gone, including his sloppy table which would require her to get him to get rid of all of the items off the table first and then take the table. So, yes she did lie and knew exactly what she was doing. I was sitting here feeling bad about getting him for only 1.5m and was actually going to come back later to deliver the rest. But now I'm glad I didn't and checked first.

He could've put his stuff in Re-tail. If she only talked to him when he pinged/wanted something, given enough time, she would be able to slowly clear out his house. (There's also the chance that she bought him from someone and never bothered to check his house.)

I've never been cheated. I usually just give items away for free or trade an item.
Thanks for the tip on feedback. All the people I've dropped items off here for have been very polite and generous.

She said he was only in her town for 2 weeks, and that she got him from the campsite. Even if all you said happened, his house would NOT be left in the state it was in. If he put his stuff on Re-Tail then she would know about it. His sloppy table is also almost impossible to get because of the items sitting on top, it requires you going out of your way to get it. A villager doesn't sell all of their stuff and completely change their home without you knowing about it or wanting it to happen. I had Beau in my town for MONTHS and he only managed to get rid of one item, and that's because I made a mistake. Otherwise he would've been 99% original.

Ps: I have no idea why you're trying to make excuses for this person. Are you her?! O.o

I'm defending her because your main post gave too many loopholes for her to escape from.

I'm actually offended that you would accuse me of being a scammer. So much for helping you with Deirdre.

Wow, what a triffling *****. Whenever I sell my villagers on Reddit or ACC I always make sure they're 100% original or as close to it as possible. If they're not, then I just give them away for free. There's no way she didn't know he was 0% original.

I got scammed once on ACC, I asked someone to hold my items for a reset and they never let me back in to grab them. I was ****ing pissed. Never again...

RiceBunny is right. I've had Marshal for months and it would take me a ton of work to get his sloppy table out! (Which I don't intend to do). At worst, a villager changes two things without you knowing. Stripping him of all his sloppy furniture would take a lot of effort and a lot of talking and visits. I got Marshal's picture within the first month he moved in, but never bought his sloppy furniture. That table is still there and would take me a lot of effort to get out.

On TBT, I've never. It's pretty rare to get scammed here.

On ACC I have been cheated on.
I and some other person did 1 hour of landscaping for some dude only to be paid nothing.
We were promised 1m each I think.
It was a huge waste of time - and the mods didn't do anything lol which is why I dislike ACC.

ACC mods are terrible. They'll give you a crapload of warnings/infractions for not doing anything wrong. I remember I befriended this girl on ACC once, she stole a bunch of my perfect fruit/hybrids. (I was trying to reason wi her, then a random guy came into my town. She DC'd shortly after that.)
