Have lazy villagers always been this gross?

In the end, the "Lazy" villagers are pretty much designed to ace like... little kids, or even just childish? And you know what little kids are? Gross. They're gross. I know I was gross as a little kid.

But little kids can also do funny/cute things, which shows in their dialogue (namely, the postcards they send you). I will admit, it does get a little old at times since the 'gross' dialogue in some Lazy villagers is more common than other Lazy villagers. Though, some of the Lazy villager dialogue is an absolute gold mine of humour.

In the end, it is just a game. Just learn to ignore it.

it makes me so conflicted, because i just have Boomer on my island who's a lazy villager, and he's just so flippin' adorable. but when he tells me that he's glad to have a new shirt because it wont have crust on it, it makes me go 'blehhhhhhhhboomer' :c

Man...if y'all are that easily grossed out, you better be careful where you click on the internet. Lol.

Yeah...I think Khaelis said it well. The lazy villagers are meant to appeal to the childlike part of us. Little kids are all about boogers and worms. So...yeah. Just pulling from my personal memories of being a kid...you had plenty of things like "ABC gum" (asking if someone likes 'ABC gum' and then giving them the "Already Been Chewed" gum from your mouth. Or...asking "do you like sea food?" ... followed by opening your mouth and saying "SEE, food!" Yeah...kids are nasty little critters. Hahaha.

I mostly find them endearing and funny. I always shiver when they mention the bugs in their home though 😅
They do seem to symbolise innocence and carefreeness [ happy go lucky] so their dialogue wouldn't be farfetched.

Honestly loved it most when they spoke of when they worked once and how they hated it, very relatable.

I suppose I would be grossed out if I actually saw my lazy villagers playing with bugs or sucking stains out of their clothing but since all that stuff is just dialogue it doesn't bother me.However,I would like to see Joey trying to suck stains out of his shirt through that big orange bill of his.

I think there's a difference between lazy and gross which new horizons seems to have missed, I would consider myself to be lazy sometimes but I don't think I would try to give someone something with rotten old food spilled on it haha (I hope not)
YES! Thank you. It feels like all the personalities were either "Flanderized" or changed completely, like snooty villagers are more like nerds now.

Yeah, lazies used to be one of my favourite personalities, but the first 2 in my town really put me off. I ended up having no lazies for a few months. Now I have Cole as an attempted revival - and the bugs and ghastliess fits with Halloween for now. But not sure how long this'll last.

I'm kinda guessing that the personalities might be more based on Japanese culture than Western culture (like most other things in the game). So...simply calling them "jock" or "lazy" or whatever is just easier than trying to explain the actual significance of whatever their original personality might be. That's just how I see it. And it would certainly explain why the childlike slob aspect factors more into the "lazy" personality than one would expect it to.

Much in the same way that many of the "snooty" villagers seem perfectly pleasant to me...so that is probably lost in translation as well.

As someone who started playing with New Horizons...I honestly didn't realize that there was any other way for them to be, hah.

That said, I feel like I don't get that dialogue too often? Normally when I talk to Beau I get the "wandered into your dreams by accident," "everything on this island tastes good," or "thinking about seeing your big round head" dialogue the most / first, which I do find pretty endearing.

On the one hand, lazies are known for being awkwardly funny, childish as well as a bit weird acting. On the other hand, I do understand that their dialogue might be a bit questionable sometimes, to say it that way. I mean, for an example, I'm not a fan of their love for bugs, and most of the "bug dialogue" starts to kinda bother me, especially if they mention it almost every time. At some point, I honestly just started to skip through this. Then again, I have that feeling that it's not just the lazies who's dialogue is sometimes so weird and not fitting well to their personality, not sure if it has something to do with what kind of hobby they have now or if they just changed the personalities so much from title to title. By the end of the day, Lazy villagers are still my favorites, even if I may not always like and share their love for bugs or offers of gross food.

Oh also, can we please just keep in mind the Lazy villagers have the top tier dialogue where they think they're in a simulation, and start becoming self aware about the world they live, Tom Nook being weird and music playing all the time, ONLY joke that it was all a dream?

It's rare, but when they say it, it always makes me laugh :)

I was just trying to research this yesterday, wondering if there were any lazies that didn't talk about bugs. In my opinion, we no longer have lazy villagers, but "sloppy" villagers. I'm not offended or grossed out to the point that I don't want that personality type in my town, but I certainly dont want more than one and if there was a sub-type of them that was slightly less gross, I'd pick one of them instantly

I didn't realize they were that gross. All Filbert ever says is he spilled something and it's sticky.

Tbh I don't find lazies gross or overly nasty I guess maybe because I'm kinda lazy and a bit of a slop (Not to wear I feed bugs or anything I just tend to leave small pieces of trash on my desk since I work at it all day. Hhh)
