Have lazy villagers always been this gross?

I feel like the lazy villagers were always a bit like this, but nowhere near this bad. This game paints such a bleak picture of their lives and makes me more concerned than anything else. They're basically dysfunctional versions of Agitha from Twilight Princess.

I don't remember them being this bad in City Folk and definitely not New Leaf.

I really liked the Gamecube lazies. They seemed more like hippy surfer dudes who were just super chill and go-with-the-flow. They liked food and they slept a lot, but they didn't make you question how they managed to survive on their own like the NH lazies do for me. There are several lazies I like the look of but don't want to invite to my island because I don't want the cuteness ruined by the dialogue.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who still likes lazy villagers. I always saw their grossness as something natural for an animal. It also reminded me of what a little brother or kid would act like.

lol i guess they're a little gross, but like some others said, their cute dialogue makes up for it imo. i still love lazies, theyre super sweet ☺

I've not played much ACNL, but I don't necessarily find the lazy personality the most gross in this game. I don't mind the talk of bugs, I think that's cute. Hornsby has the nature hobby after all, and some people that like nature, they like the more 'gross' part of it. Bugs can be cute, and they don't necessarily have to be sign of sloppy homes or rotting food lying about. My Hornsby lives in a starter home with a lot of wood, of course there's going to be a few bugs in the walls and floors!

The 'licked gravy letter' is gross, but such gross letters aren't limited to lazy personality types only. The jock letters are pretty gross to me too, with their unsollicited comments on my villager's apparent appearance. (Also, I can't look at the jocks without smelling the stench of sweat).. And in the spoiler you'll find the grossest one I have gotten several times from my peppy villagers now:

Lazy's are just being lazy. Nothing weird at all. It matches their personality. I actually think they were grosser in the older games. lol

I guess lazy personality types are supposed to be messy...but I do agree they were cuter in past games. I like bugs too, but everytime they mention bugs or "talking" to them, I just imagine bugs just crawling around a lazy's house and they're just having a one-sided conversation with the bugs, all alone. It's kind of a sad/creepy visual.

It's not just the lazies who are gross or who sends a gross letter, the peppies actually send at least one gross letter too. If I remember the letter correctly, my mom's one peppy Peanut sent a letter about throwing up in a car and when we both read that, we were like, "seriously?... I did not need to know that..."

Back to the main topic though, I do agree they can kinda be gross and they definitely were not like this in New Leaf, that's for sure.

Rex sent me a letter today. He asked if I liked how it smelled, because he spilled gravy on it then kicked it off. I don't recall this kind of grossness in last games. Lol

I personally think the dialog for all villager personalities was better in New Leaf but I might be a victim of nostalgia I had 4 lazy villagers on my island a few months ago, it got to the point where I didn't talk to any of them because I was tired of having the same conversation over and over again.

When you start thinking of personalities as age groups (grumpy=old man, lazy=child, peppy=teenager) it makes things less weird. Everything a lazy villager says is something a kid would do
