Have lazy villagers always been this gross?

I'm not at all grossed out by the majority of what lazies say, but this letter with that fossilized dung disturbed me greatly.
I think the fossilized dung gift is more funny than disturbing 
One time I saw this picture.... someone laid a bunch of those dung around the toilet in their bathroom in animal crossing, so it looked like someone did number two all over the floor. That made me feel queasy

Lazy islanders are ex-secret agents.
They just behave like they're lazy and childish (and therefore non-threatening) and they're all about the food and bugs to throw you off. They are so good at what they do, aren't they! Their pragmatic nature sometimes gives them away, though.

I don't think in anyway rubbing food all over something you are going to gift to someone is seen as a thing they would enjoy
I could be wrong, but in NL they sometimes mentioned having like a stain on their shirt from food they ate, but in NH they just took it up a notch.
It's not necessarily that they act more grungy (they do) but they feel more like caricatures than actual people. You know how it's almost unanimous that people hate TTG because they just bastardized the character's personalities? It's not to that level, but it feels lowkey like that.
Like I saved a clip of my lazy stating how, everything in my island is tasty and then I talked to them right after for them to state how my clothes makes them hungry. And it's not like they embellished on the dialogue. You know like it could be beefed up (no pun intended) and be something like they start daydreaming towards the end of the statement and drooling about how hungry seeing my clothes made them. And then realize they're still in a conversation and excuse themselves.
Instead it's pretty cut and dry.

I don't know why, but for some reason I find them more funny than disturbingly gross. But whenever they say something about a cookie stain on their DIY or whatever, I do tend to raise my eyebrow. Like really? Again? The bugs thing makes me laugh for sure. I guess when you put it like this, though, it really does seem like they're more the stoner on the couch all day type letting things get gross, rather than simply being lazy. But I've caught Rex sleeping while standing in his house a few times, so that makes sense.

I like lazy villagers but jeez they really go extreme in these games, we have raddle and lucky and although we love both of them they're kind of gross. Though I don't find the bug talk gross personally

The bug talk is weird but it doesn't bother me too much. The food on clothing and letters and such squicks me out. I don't care if they are "childish" a- I view them as adults [I mean they have houses and debt and live on their own ect] and b- even children you teach to not suck stains out of shirts or wear crusty clothing just 
I liked lazies a lot more in NL. I'm this close to just not having one at all in this game.

i think they intended for the lazy villagers to just be 'funny' and 'cute', but no joke, they are literally mentally deficient people. severely screwed up people. I'm not even kidding.

I've noticed it too, but I have a soft spot for lazies so I always just dismiss it.
I don't mind the food stains and food talk but the constant talking about bugs creeps me out. I'm creeped out by bugs in real life so having my residents talking about them doesn't help. I used to have Clay & Broccolo because I liked them in NL but every time I was in their home they'd talk about the bugs in the floor and I'd get super weirded out. I hated going into their homes because of that. I just realized that I have to have a lazy move back in because I need the Reactions from them & I'm honestly dreading the bug talk again.

Honestly I hate all of the dialogue in this game because its like the same 5 lines over and over. Half of my island is the same personality type so I almost always get the same lines in a row when I talk to them.
I avoid reading dialogue as much as I can.

I have had several of them and liked them a lot. Sherb is adorable and so is Bones. I also have Lucky and Beau who are cute. And in the past I had Erik and his awesome Frozen Set house. Prince was also kinda cool. For the most part, I think they are cute. However, when they tell you they showed up in your dreams, it's creepy because it's like they have a crush on you but on the other hand they seem so young. It's icky.
I didn't care for receiving a post card that one of them spilled gravy on and then licked. Ewww. But the bug stuff doesn't bother me too much.
The funny thing about them to me is that they often give you book related recipes, like the stack of books or bookshelf maybe. So it's like they are readers who sit and snack while they read. (I am also like that.) Bones' house is actually a library.
