Pashima just reffered to Goldie using gender nuteral pronouns and I got really excited because I'm agender and I love it when people are referred to as 'they' so I'm just wondering has this ever happened before with one of your villagers?

Yep this happens all the time in my game, it got me thinking, do any of the villagers ever refer to each other as he/she? Is this something New Leaf did on purpose, or simply to avoid further programming? I think it's great that they avoid he/she!

Actually there are at least 3 characters in the game that are Non-binary. One of them is a penguin. I just wish they had an openly gay villager, Julian is a poor excuse. I mean Julian is my favorite, but still he they should really make his sexuality a little more open.

Out of interest, who are these characters?

Um, no. Do you believe everything you read on Tumblr? Villagers and NPCs are either a boy or a girl. Anyone can edit a wiki page.

Gracie's gender is male in the Japanese version of the game.

You know, uchis are sometimes referred to by male pronouns, or gender neutral pronouns.

Yes I've had this happen before.

I also had a weird occurrence when Gigi was talking about Cheri and referred to her as "he" and "him" - it was very bizarre.

I think Saharah and GracieGrace technically are.. Who's the penguin though? ovo

Penguin is probably Boomer, he's the only one I've seen repeatedly mentioned whenever this topic comes up. Never seen it happen when he lived in my town, everyone referred to Boomer as him.

Pashmina is an uchi villager, they often refer to other villagers as "they" instead of using gendered pronouns, for some reason.

I think it's probably a translation issue. I understand that Japanese has more complex pronouns and they aren't all gender-locked.

i see lots of people complain about having queer villagers but you have to remember that this game is aimed at 8-15 year old kids who may not have a grasp about these things. im not saying that it's bad. most likely, the different pronouns is because of a translation or programming error. it's yet to happen to me (i think).

I don't understand why any villagers should have a clear "sexuality".. it makes me think of a simpsons episode where when questioned Martin prince said he wasnt gay, he "wasn't anything yet" to paraphrase. I'm happy to leave sexuality out of the game.

I have also found the use of "him" when referring to female villagers, which I assume is either deliberate with regard to the tomboyness of uchis, or else more likely a translation error/overlook.

Just typos or translation errors or what have you. No villager in the game is programmed to be anything but male or female, nor do they really even have sexuality.

However I heard Gracie is supposed to be male in the Japanese version? As well as Saharah (or at least 'neutrally' gendered)? Ehh, or is that just rumor?

Yes, they're males in the Japanese version and only the Japanese version.

I don't really care what people prefer their villagers to be referred as, as long as the fact that not everyone sees it the same as others is respected.
