Okay, I had Marshall's little reserved house space (the little fence and sign), I payed tons for him and he was a gift for my sister for xmas. ; m;
And then I asked a Pietro to move in and all the sudden, Pietro moved in and Marshall's reserved space was gone and he never moved in. D:
I am like, so crushed right now. I didn't even know that was possible.

Wow, so the plot showed up, but then Marshal never actually moved in? That's so weird. I thought once the plot showed up, that "counted" as a villager...

Never had it happened to me. I've heard similar stories about people asking someone to move in or move out and got cancelled when they asked a different villager to move in or out. I guess with the fence and sign it doesn't get counted that they are apart of your village. It does say "reserved" on the sign and their house isn't shown on your map. I guess they're only counted when their house appears and moves in.

Come to think of it, yeah. When I asked Elvis to move in my random's plot disappeared. This happened a while back (Maybe 3 weeks after launch?) and I didn't think anything of it. Thanks for informing us OP, and I'm so sorry this happened to you! I've restarted my cycling town to get Beau and Pashmina for my sister, so when a smug decides to move in I'll make sure to reset for Marshal. You can have him free of charge
