I have never played new leaf without getting a lot of bells to make life easier. I?m wondering if I should reset and make myself do everything from scratch. It will be a lotttt of work but I wonder if it will be fun? I played it on my game cube without extra bells or trading for items I wanted.... tell me your stories, how does it go??

There have been a few people that feel unsatisfied. Happy_Tails is a user who has detailed their journey.

Many people find more fun when they reset. Other people find giving their bells and items away to others makes them feel the joy of giving, and it renews their spirit and energy for New Leaf.

Whatever makes you happy!

On new leaf, you can sell your town to Tom nook and have extra bells in your new town! I have done it and nook gave me 999,999,999 bells but my last town was hacked and was completely done.

I have been very, very tempted to do this lately. I think this is what it'd take for me to get into New Leaf again. I haven't played it much at all since the welcome amiibo update. I'd probably cave and get money from Nook though. I'm not sure I have enough free time to be a slave to fishing and island bugs for bells. I was very far into my first town before discovering Bell Tree and realizing how easy it was to get things.

I did it and it was for the greater good. Like I was blocked with amiibo villagers whom would never ping so that helped me to reset my town, I also asked someone from here to keep some important furnitures for me so yeah.

My very first town of Cocoplum was built from my own sweat and tears. Gutting it out every day and night, whether it be the island hunting big bugs and fish for bells, massing starts to landscape or spending hours doing menial chores for my neighbors. I didn't borrow, buy or beg for one bell. All of my various other towns in other AC incarnations were also built that way. But after I began my second NL town, I never did that again. I brought in tools, bells, starts, furniture sets, clothing, patterns, you name it. I like having a base from which to begin now. But yes, I recall the original GC version: I had just had a baby and I would fish ALL night while she and my husband slept to make bells, lol. Oh, the good old days!

I see I didn't even read this right, lol. I have not reset and then began from scratch. My eyes are old. They need to learn how to read better :) But no way would I sell or destroy any of my towns and start from scratch. For one, I am too fond of all of my towns to destroy them and two, I fear I am too lazy and spoiled to start from the beginning without a solid foundation of assistance from my other towns.

Haha! That’s awwsome though, I’ve been wanting to try to see what I could do from scratch in new leaf. I’m too scared to destroy a town though :(

Yes I have! At first it was difficult and I regretted it...but after resetting for a "perfect" town map layout I was able to plan out how my town is going to look like. I'm currently trying to get certain PWPs unlocked before I start laying out my town. :) I already have a theme in mind for my new town and I love my town name!

I couldn't.

I've put too much time and effort, and money, into it.

The thought of having to unlock the train station upgrade alone puts me off.

It cost me so much in mobile data to visit 100 towns I didn't even want to go to.

And people wonder why I dislike games with internet interaction.

I just recently did this and I played completely on my own up until now when I sold my art and got some bells. But by then, I had my campsite and my second bridge and had already upgraded all my shops, etc. got the bare basics done before getting those bells. Granted I think playing completely independently would be fun as well... but long as well.

I couldn't bring myself to delete my old town so I just bought a new cartridge. Then I bought another one. But that's it, two might just keep me going forever.

I've not found bells a problem in acnl - I find its easy to earn enough to take me thru game (albeit probably relatively slowly).
I go to the island most mornings (bet 6 & 8am) and come away with 420k (one tour, 40 mins & if I'm on bell boom).
Which means I can upgrade the house or do a PWP every other day.
Bells are not important to me either way - having or not having.

Edit: a provisio about bells - bells take me time to 'earn'. My time (its real life actual time) is important - so I'm reluctant to say give millions away as I'm giving away something precious to me - my time.

What I have found difficult/frustrating is getting the items I want (It took me ages to get the bath mat; 2x green a must have item if into feng shui) and DLC not available in my region. Other frustrations - getting the villagers I would like (Apollo, eventually bought his card) the town layout and misplacing permanent PWP's.
I would base starting anew on these issues rather than bells.

I'm another player that has more than one town, I've had a 3ds & a game given to me as a combined birthday/Christmas/wedding anniversary present since the game launch - my wish & my hubby thinks he has got off lightly. Means I don't have to make such a difficult decision.

I didn't reset or deleted my old, ''sort of accomplished'' town but made another on a different cartridge. Been trying to do a different theme and my main focus are decorating the interiors and the placement of villagers/pwps.
