Has anyone caught a Tuna or Blue Marlin?

Never used bait, caught loads. You don't have to stand on the pier itself, it can be a large shadow to the side of the pier near the beach as well.

Also, always check where Wilbur stands on excursions, pier rules apply there too. I usually catch one or the other on island trips.

I’m still looking for Tuna! Used countless baits too! It’s the only fish I haven’t caught for the season

I haven't, I have a short pier. Those with long pier have a much easier time catching Marlin and Tuna since they are more out at sea then the regular fishes.

I caught both.

I didn’t know the Blue Marlin was a pier exclusive fish until I caught one near the pier. I looked up its encyclopedia information in-game and found that they are only found at the pier.

Forgive me if someones already said this but apparently the islands have a better catch rate sometimes? I was searching for a blue marlin for ages and i gave up, decided to go on an island tour, first fish i caught was a blue marlin when i wasnt even trying

Keep at it. You’ll get it soon! With or without bait.
Could try doing it at night so you also have a chance for the Barraleye. Got plenty that way, looking for a different fish.

actually don't feel bad for having a short pier, it really doesn't give you a lesser chance to catch those fish! Each pier, regardless of size, has the same 3 spawn points (one on each side, and one at the end of the pier)

The only fish that appears on the pier that I still have to catch is the Tuna.

Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi and Giant Trevally were a nightmare to get. It took me around 40 bait on a rainy day to get them. Never managed to find any of these fish again.

I was lucky enough to catch the coelacanth last night after returning from my visit to your town. I doubt I'll be seeing that one again too! The fact I got 2 days of rain in my first week is more luck than I usually have

I ALWAYS catch a blue marlin or an oarfish (among the big fish), never a tuna. It's frustrating because I still haven't caught a tuna and I think they leave this month in Northern Hemisphere.

My first week with the game I had like 5 rainy days, non-stop. You didn't get inside my house, but I have a Coelacanth in my main room. The first one I got (and donated to the museum) was a surprise, because I was trying to find sharks and when I saw a big shadow, I couldn't see if there was a fin or not because of the angle.

The second time I found a Coelacanth was I'm the same night I got these pier fish, as it was raining a lot (it was also the first time I saw thunderstorms in the game).

You should come back here to catch some river fish that are in season in the southern hemisphere, like the Betta, the Neon Tetra, the Tilapia, Ranchu Goldfish, Pop-eyed goldfish and so on (also the bugs)

Unfortunately that is not the case. On my old island, I had a very long pier so the respawn rate of the fish were very high. On my new island, that is not the case. While I do get fish from time to time at the pier (wooden plank), it is significantly less than my first island. I only had a total of 5 days on my first island compare to 22 days on this island.

I have read this on multiple forums around the internet. The general concensus is that short pier is at a major disadvantage. Only chance I have is using baits as Marlin/Tuna do not often come close to short pier. You get fish spawn but it mostly sea bass, mackerel, etc... Marlin/Tuna are much further out at sea.

So while the spawn points are the same, Marlin and Tuna do not spawn near the coast most of the time. Even with baits, its still quite hard. I kind of all but given up on Marlin and Tuna. I plan on playing this game for many years so I don't need to catch every fish in every months.

Not to mention the pier is a beautiful place and is the place on the island where you get the farthest out to sea and so it really disappointing that mine is short. Maybe we should add pier side along with airport color, native fruits, and etc... when it come to looking for a map layout lol!

I caught both as soon as I learned they were exclusive to the pier. And I've seen several more since then. I don't even use bait anymore...it wastes too much time for what it actually accomplishes.

* I do have a long pier, though. I didn't realize there were size variants.

That makes sense, I have a short pier.... You shouldn't be penalised based on something you had no idea would have an influence. That just seems ridiculously unfair.

And for those interested.... my mystery tour got me one oarfish XD Damn it!

I think I'm just going to give up :(

Ah I'm sorry to hear that the short pier actually creates a disadvantage like that! I think I have a rather long pier, but even so, I can state that I caught my marlin and tuna both closer to the shores. They were swimming next to the pier, but were close enough to shore that I could cast my line out while standing on the beach

I got pretty lucky with my catches! Took maybe 34 bait but I got the tuna and Marlin back to back lol. Like you I had like 100 bait ready to go and an afternoon clears.

I have never caught anything decent with the ~50 bait I've used. If they change crafting so multiple can be made at once, and so clams stack, I'll do it again. But this just sucks currently.

I keep getting them when I go fishing for coelacanths. I'm sick of them by now tbh
