has anyone actually had luck island hopping?

I haven't gone island hopping in a long while since I bought 150 nmt and on my 3rd try since buying, I found Sherb. He wasn't my dreamies but had to take him in on how adorable he is. Still have him in my island <3 but aside from that I don't think I have really good luck. I agree with one of the commenters who said that it's best to not have that mindset. I was so stuck on getting who I wanted and passed on some other villagers without giving them a chance. One day of island hopping I found Kiki, I really didn't want her but I already had a plot that needed to be filled so I settled for her. To this day she is a new favorite and still on my island. Sure some of them may not look to cute but some of them are just hidden gems! Maybe I'm taking this the wrong way and in fact extremely lucky for finding these highly sought villagers but to me it really didn't feel that way. I was just so stuck on finding my dreamies I didn't give anyone a second glance. But I'm so glad I was able to give kiki, sprinkle and tabby that chance and eventually fell in love with them!

Back on topic though, I was quite lucky in the beginning, got Audie and Bud without trying. So I really shouldnt complain.
I found Merry on my 4th ticket, Pashmina on my 2nd, and Sherb (who I just kicked out due to his beginner house interior, wanted to refind him) on my 2-4th NMT, I forgot what number c: Im sorry you are having bad luck, you will find the villager soon <3

I think that people perceive they have more luck when they're open minded about who they'll find. If you just wanted a smug villager or a cat for example, there are more villagers in the possible pool that will make you happy than if you only wanted say, Raymond and no one else. If you want a very specific villager, I honestly think that cycling or buying the villager outright will be a less stressful process.
My best experience has to be when I found Raymond in 7 tickets. I was originally looking for a snooty villager, but I had the bright idea of island hopping with only 10 tickets, and got worried I'd get a random if I didn't take someone soon. I knew Raymond was popular, but I hadn't realized Raymond had that much hype. I thought he was a unique villager with his office look, so I took him! I ended up just purchasing a snooty villager (Greta) from someone on Discord.
The other times I island hopped, I was open to finding anyone cute as long as they were from different personality types. I was able to get Cookie, Erik, Ava, and Rocco pretty fast that way since my parameters weren't that specific.

I've seen and had some great Tours. And some very bad ones with 60 straight generic characters nobody would want. It's a Total (capital T. Note the capital letter) crapshoot.
I've gotten Raymond, Lucky and Merengue through hopping. I've also gotten Willow...so you know.
The campsite brought me Julian also Dizzy and Rasher who I love.

Here are some basic things that could be done by Nintendo to fix island tours.
- No repeat villagers. There is no reason to see the same person 4 times in 20 trips.
- You can't meet the person who just moved out.
That's why I'm on this island. Why would I want to see the guy that just MOVED?

they should at least make it so you go through all villagers with no repeats
i found bubbles 3 times in a row it was so annoying
but i just spent another 88nmt and still haven't found rod and i tt to see if he might be my random move-in but i ended up with kitty

Not a dreamie but definitely a popular villager. I've never had him before, so interested in what is all the hype about him about. Still, he's another villager I'll end up giving away in the end haha.

I've had some pretty decent luck but at the same time I'm not fussy. If I like the villager I'll take 'em. So far I've gotten Nan, Chevre, Poppy, Fauna, and Tom. I've seen a few villagers I don't like on islands too (eg. Jambette) but so far its never taken too long to find someone I don't mind moving in.

I think I’m sorta lucky but sought of completely and utterly unlucky. For my first few nmts I found my favourite villager Zucker and I found maple who’s super cute and then like 20 tickets later or maybe less I found vic who I think is a really cool villager however the next day I spent 35 tickets looking for just a decent snooty and I found one snooty... cashmere who’s eyes are RIGHT next to eachother and is probably one of my least favourite villagers let alone snooty villagers, I feel like getting a snooty with a 1/35 chance is super unlucky but on my 31st ticket I just grabbed bluebear because I was about to give up lol
I have! Sometimes it’s a gamble and I don’t find anybody I like but I have found Egbert, Murphy, Pinky, and Whitney from the islands! I wasn’t looking for any of them in particular though, it was more of a happy accident when I found them. I think if you’re hopping islands specifically for one or two villagers it’s a lot more exhausting/frustrating.
He's the really smuggy kind of smug. But I like him. Also on a side note: give him a hat and he becomes just a blue horse.
