has anyone actually had luck island hopping?

Rng is one cruel mistress. Once it's put out there thats the villager you want Rng will do everything in power to make sure you don't see them. Which is why I try to have no expectations but somehow still end up disappointed lol.

i'm starting to wonder if the campsite method would be better
i've heard it's really stressful, takes ages and you'll end up with loads of weeds/flowers but it works better than island hopping
oh yeah, my friends prefer it! but it does come with that trade off, so that's something to keep in mind. iirc you also have better chances of getting ones of the personality type you lack (so like, me with three lazies i'm probably not finding punchy through that any time soon lol)
luckily i don't have any jocks atm ☆
i'm only worried about messing up the island with flowers lol but i might give that a try instead
also if you're looking for punchy i have his amiibo so i can get him for you, i don't mind ☆

Kiki and Lolly are at the top of my list of most wanted. Still searching for them, but I have had some good luck finding others I couldn't pass up along the way.
I haven't had many chances to go searching since I don't time travel. Less than 75 NMTs and I've found Bluebear, Marina, and Whitney.

In retrospect I got pretty lucky, I got Merengue after 70 NMT and Kiki after 30 NMT even though Kiki had a chance of 0.12% I think :-o
I really recommend the campsite method, time flies by if you watch TV shows or Youtube and you're at least not wasting NMT

i have to thank my stars - i have actually had incredible luck that i'm grateful for. the only villagers i had to buy from people were diana and judy because my luck had run out by the end of it all lol. stitches was the first villager i found, on my third island. i have all of my dreamies aside from bunnie - who, i ironically left on an island, and i regret now because she's so cute.
Been island hopping for 3 days now, looking for O'Hare, Coco or Ankha. Havent found any of them yet and have spent probably around 100 tickets. However, I had several repeats of villagers that arent supposed to be common. Like today, I got Klaus three times within 10 tries. What are the odds?
I know it's supposed to be random, but sometimes I wonder if there is a hidden bias towards certain villagers.

I ran into Judy on island 9 on my last move out and I didn't take her. I took home my dreamie Flora instead. If you just extend your list to be more than 10 villagers to take home, you'll probably find island hopping more enjoyable. I have a bunch of characters where they are if I find you, I'm OK with having you for a bit. I like island hopping

i got judy after like 10-15 islands and sold her for a fortune that i then could use to buy the villager i was lookign for so i guess i have had luck
I got Pippy, Biskit, Octavian, Dobie, Sherb, and Audie from islands. Only ended up keeping Pippy, Biskit, and Dobie but if I hadn't found Pippy and Biskit I probably wouldn't have even thought about them.
I got Coco for you.

I've been so lucky! In the first week I got Audie, Beau and Midge without much effort (and didn't think much of it at the time but I'm so grateful despite their houses being starter houses). I recently printed like 35 NMTs to look for either Bea, Del, or Daisy and I managed to get Bea on my ~20th island or so, and now I have like 15 NMTs leftover lol. I know some people have used 100s of NMTs and still struggled so I've been blessed by the RNG Gods with villagers. ...but not so much other things.
I wanted my dear Agent S for sure (not sure if this is obvious in any way lol) and I have her amiibo but she was like... the 3rd villager I found on a mystery island haha!! <3 I was honestly astonished. I love her so much ;u;

I seem to keep having relatively good luck. The other day I found whitney with 3 NMTs. Grabbed her for my boyfriend c:
I also found raymond pretty early into playing the game. I asked my friend if he was any popular, so I did grab him and gave him to a friend not too long after. I think I've only had 1 bad day of island hopping, which was my first island hopping adventure after I reset my island.
