Harvey's island with second character

What are the exact requirements? A friend who made a second character said he'd show up on the second day, but it's the third now and still nothing.

Well, I remember that one day he showed up on my island, I talked to him, and then I could go to his place. I assume that's what OP is talking about, him not showing up to your island? Idk if it would be already unlocked for 2nd players? (edit: it seems from OP's post below that it does not unlock by itself)

I don't even get the option. Orville goes straight to asking me if I want local or online.

I think this is correct. My partner’s player didn’t get him until he finally upgraded his house.
