Pretty big news from Microsoft and 343 Industries in the past hour. First of all, Halo Infinite will no longer be making its Holiday 2020 release date, and has instead been pushed back to 2021. The team over at 343 Industries have blamed COVID-19 as well as wanting to deliver the best quality product without damaging the well-being of the team as the main reasons for the delay, but many including myself will obviously remember last month's showing of Halo Infinite at the Xbox Games Showcase which failed to meet expectations for a lot of people, with the technical issues and disappointment with how the graphics looked compared to even Halo 5.

Here's the message from 343 Industries:

Even without Halo Infinite, Microsoft still plans to launch Xbox Series X/S this November. Their main marketing message to sell the console this holiday appears to be that there will be thousands of games available day-one on Xbox Game Pass, and exclusives such as The Medium and Scorn coming. I have to say though, Microsoft have taken a very brave step with this move, knowing Halo is a system-seller, and was going to be their ace this holiday season. The best thing to come out of this is that with 343 having more time to iron out the experience, there's a chance we might get something that looks closer to the E3 2018 teaser of the game.

Xbox Series X/S launching in November:

What are your thoughts on the delay of Halo Infinite, and how do you think it'll impact the Xbox Series X/S in the short/long-term? Has it made you think twice about buying the system at launch? For me, as a massive Halo fan, I think I'm probably going to hold off now until Halo Infinite launches - being able to play games from past generations is not enough to make me run out and buy the system as soon as possible, and I have a feeling that quite a few people will share this sentiment. I do think this is the right move, though, because I think the impact would have been worse in the longer term had Halo Infinite released in an incomplete state.

I think this is a good decision overall. I've been following news behind Halo Infinite and 343 Industries and it seems internally the company environment has not been great either. They seem to be facing a lot of challenges. I didn't think the game looked awful, but it definitely felt like a step back in terms of graphical quality considering people want to see what the new hardware can run and not the older style the game used to have. I also wonder if that choice was due to the game being open-world and it wouldn't be as graphically intensive for loading areas.

Not having Halo at launch won't kill it for them. The Switch didn't really have a spectacular lineup when it first launched either and it did amazing in sales. Though, I do not think Microsoft will have the same success unfortunately. I think it's pretty clear more people are leaning toward PS5 due to the exclusive titles. I personally am playing for the long haul. I will get the Xbox Series X at the start and eventually when the PS5 drops in price down the road I will get it just for the exclusive titles like I did for the PS4. Aside from the lack of exclusives, the Xbox Series X has all the important things I am looking for so far.

I don't mind it being delayed, if it means that the game quality will be improved! Such as how New Horizons was delayed, but became a huge success 🥳
