Grey stone on house exteriors

Hi, I was just posting because I noticed that if you have your house exterior renovated, a lot of ugly grey stone appears. I had the modern design for Neptune and it doesn't look too bad on his house (as his is metallic/space themed) but on the other designs, there is a large amount of grey stone at the bottom of your house.

Does anybody know why this happens? Does anybody else dislike it? It really look horrid, IMO.

If I'm thinking of the same thing that you're referring to, then you can get the stone renovated as well, they don't have to be the default grey one. The different types are in the back left corner of Nook's store.

No, I think that's the pavement. I have had my pavements done in pretty colours. Sorry, I'm not good at explaining things, lol. I found a link though (if it's allowed).

In the Mansion, your exterior walls stay whatever colour you choose to customize them. In the other three designs, ugly grey stone appears over your original colour. In the Zen Castle, it goes up almost to the top of your front door
