I would love to get my older brother into one of these shows (both eventually). Which one do you guys think would be easier for me to convince him to watch? He is 31 years old and a few cartoons he has liked are Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dexter's Labratory, and The Powerpuff Girls. I would prefer unbiased opinions from people who have seen and liked both shows please!

And any way you guys have introduced these shows to unwilling people that convinced them to watch it and stick with it, please tell me how you did it!

My concerns: Steven Universe takes too long to get to the point. My brother might not make it past the first few episodes. Gravity Falls might be too wacky and silly?

Steven Universe is good, it just has way too much filler to it. I'd say Gravity Falls.

In my opinion, Steven Universe is superior, though I really enjoyed Gravity Falls too.

While it seems like there are so many 'filler' episodes, each one has a purpose, whether it's character development, a bit of history or simply just a break from plot heavy moments. They always have a purpose.

The music is another way that a viewers experience with the show is more engaging. Take a look at the episode, 'Mr Greg'. Initially you would think it would be filler. But it was later revealed to be a musical episode with plenty of songs fitted into 11 minutes. Not only that, we got character development for Greg and Pearl as they both come to terms with each other and the passing of Rose.

I love the show to bits! Though Fridays episode seemed like the worst episode ever...

I have yet to see Steven Universe but I feel he would enjoy Gravity Fall's humor. inb4 "Modern cartoons are dumb" lol jk. Just don't push the shows on him. From my experience it makes it harder to get people interested

Gravity Falls is much shorter than Steven Universe but ultimately they're two very different shows. If you try to get him into SU I recommend the Flood Order since it cuts out a lot of BS and gets more to the point faster. He can always go back and watch them if it manages to hook him by then.

God I love both series like a lot so this was hard. I would say maybe Gravity Falls just due to the fact that your brother is 31 and filler episodes in Steven Universe (like 75% of the first season) would turn him off I think. It did the same to me almost, too. I think maybe do Gravity Falls first and then, if he likes it that could solidify his stock in your opinion on shows so he would be more inclined to get through the Steven Universe fillers afterwards because he would realize you know your stuff about shows idefk lmao

But I do think he should get around to seeing both if he has any interest in cartoons. A lot of my friends hate animation for some reason so hnnng

But good luck! And I hope he likes one of these shows, or even both in a best case scenario!

I love Steven Universe and have watched a few Gravity Falls episodes but I'd say to introduce him to Gravity Falls first. Steven Universe starts out pretty slow and Steven is so unbearable in the first few episodes lol, made me want to stop watching (but I pushed through and adore it now!) and if I remember correctly, Gravity Falls actually starts out more interesting with the characters being not as annoying as Steven. Also, SU is always on hiatus which makes me want to die but it's soo worth the wait

I prefer Steven Universe... except for Grunkle Stan. Grunkle Stan is the best. I forgot how much he was featured specifically, but I'd always prefer a GF episode with Grunkle Stan taking a big part to a SU episode.

Gravity Falls hands down. Steven Universe is good too but,, there's so much filler and I don't appreciate some of the character changes that have been made.

Which character changes, may I ask?
Peridot and Lapis to be specific.

When Peridot was an antagonist I felt as if she was more interesting. Her more calculated and technical personality is what drew me into her character. Plus she was one of the newer not Crystal Gems introduced in the series. Now she seems like an angry toddler.

Lapis was a cool new gem too. I feel like she fell as character once she broke free as Malachite for good and settled in the barn along with Peridot. She acts like a moody 'meh' teenager, but I'll admit she still does have some moments here or there.

Maybe I'm just being too critical.

Oh I do kind of agree about Lapis. I love Peridot still, but Lapis seems more like an angsty teen than someone with PTSD. But I think that will eventually change when she gets over it.

I like Gravity Falls better. Don't forget this gem though:
