I have never played Pok?mon but am starting to get interested. I don't really know much about the origins of stuff so what is a good game I could start with?

X and Y both have the same story line and everything, the only big difference about the two is the legendary pokemon that you meet towards the end of the game. X's legendary pokemon is Xerneas, and Y's legendary pokemon is Yveltal

there's also other minor differences like the mega stones that you can obtain in the game
but all in all, they're basically the same exact game
you can look both of them up and see which one you think you'd like better

Fire Red and Leaf Green are the best to start on. And you can get them for cheap!

Personally, start with X/Y. It's a good intro and it's the newest

if for some reason you don't want to start with the newest game and want to have some 2D graphics, pick up either HeartGold/SoulSilver

because Gen 2 was the best gen and those are Perfect Games.

So what is the difference between them?
There are certain Pokemon exclusive to the other version, for example X has Xernas and Y has Yveltal. There's a few items that are limited to each game as well, but like with the Pokemon you can trade for those.

Good games, but personally I'd go newer than Gameboy Advance games. Don't even know if The Hidden Owl has one. AND NINTENDO GAMES NEVER GET CHEAP.

just dont play pokemon. dont get in the series. dont touch pokemon ever.

but idk start with any game it doesnt matter lol

You should start with X/Y, like others said. They made the game for both new & old fans alike, and the features are user-friendly so you'll get the hang of it quickly and learn a lot about it. The older generations are great games, but DS games aren't able to connect to wi-fi anymore so you'll miss out on a lot of features. With X/Y, you'll be able to battle and trade with friends :3

oh and actually since ORAS is coming out in November, I would just get that instead.

XY wasn't all that great, so I'd say... any other game I guess. I'd go with Black/White or Black 2/White 2 because if you did decide you wanted XY or ORAS (superior versions), you could import Pok?mon to those games. If you got Platinum, HG/SS, whatever, you'd have to get BW or B2W2 to send them to XY. (Somewhat complicated, but click here and scroll down to List of Core Series games to see all of them. 1 can send to 2, 3 can send to 4, which can send to 5, which can send to 6. You can only send Pok?mon down, not up.)

Too bad those games sell for almost 3 times their price now compared to when it first came out.

pok?mon black and white! they felt more fresh than any other games to me. also best storyline out of all if that matters to you c:

I'd start with XY since they are more easier for a new player to get into and should introduce you to the concepts of Pokemon as well as old and new Pokemon. I wouldn't recommend ORAS yet since we don't know how new user friendly it is going to be, but if you enjoy XY, picking up ORAS in November may be a good idea.

They are if you know where to look!

*recently bought a sealed new copy of The Legend of Zelda for $20*

Yes, the very first one.
