Golden vs Silver shovel

I recently acquired the golden shovel and I still have my silver shovel. I'm unsure which to keep in my pockets, since they both have their benefits and I don't want to carry around both. Do I want the gem rock and thus the silver shovel, or the increased fertilizer and tree-planting with bells and thus the golden shovel? I'm not going to get the other shovel just to bury fertilizer or hit the rocks. As for trees (that will grow into normal trees if not lucky), I wouldn't mind getting the golden shovel out, because that isn't something I'd do daily.
What shovel do you use if you have both and why? I'll also add a poll to this to see.

The silver shovel can be bought in the museum shop after donating 15 or more fossils.
The golden shovel can be achieved by buying 50 bags of fertilizer in the garden section of T&T Emporium.

So that's where I've been getting all those gem ores from I knew the silver shovel did something, but I hadn't bothered to check what it did exactly.

Well, if I had the golden shovel, I would definitively carry it instead. I don't have room for two shovels in my inventory and my letters are full with other things. Also, those gem ores are starting to annoy me. I collect them faster than I collect furniture I want to customize. They take up storage space, and when I decide to sell them instead, they don't get me that much more than money bags would. On the other hand, the golden shovel seems like it would be quite useful, at least if you're actively growing hybrids.

Money bags are just the cherry on top

50 fertilizer bags, really? After all that work, that would be a reason in itself to use the golden shovel XD

I don't really use either for their special purposes much anymore, so if I do have one its normally silver

just because I think the silver tools look nicer

Haha, I have that too. I like the look of silver more, in real life as well. Especially in combination with blue, it looks much nicer, but eventually the gold is better.


I think I'm going to take my golden shovel with me, the missed bells from ores aren't that important to me. Now it's summer, I'll earn much more from bugs anyway.

I carry both with me: my golden shovel in my pockets, and my silver one in my letters. If I'm going around smashing rocks, I'll use the silver, but otherwise when it comes to gardening or digging holes, I'll just use my golden shovel.

Silver, I don't have gold right now but even if I did I still think I'd keep the silver with me (I'd only use the gold one for money trees)

I don't have the golden shovel just the silver one but when I do get the gold one I'll still prefer the silver shovel more because you get ores from the rocks. Gold is great for planting saplings though.

I have both, but I prefer the silver shovel because I don't tend to plant all that many trees. The golden shovel looks better, but the silver shovel is more practical and useful for my specific style of play. I pretty much just alternate between the two and keep the one I'm not using at the moment in storage, be it at home or in a letter.

I prefer to carry around the silver shovel, since it gives you a better chance of finding ore- I usually just pick up the golden shovel when I want to bury a bag of fertilizer
