Hey everyone! I'm coming to you all today to ask for help making some steps toward identifying the function of sub-personalities in ACNH.
If you haven't heard already, the companion guide states that “each resident can have one of eight personality types, each with two sub-types” (page 74), but it doesn't elaborate on what the sub-types are or how they work. Some players have reported dialogue differences between villagers, but as of yet, we have no way to verify this either way.
As a preliminary test, we decided to come to the community and ask that when you go to a Nook Miles mystery island with a lazy villager present, you talk to that villager and fill out the form:
The form is two questions long and asks you to check which villager you met and which dialogue options the villager used when you spoke to them.
We hope this data will allow us to identify what attribute of the NPC parameters defines a sub-type or sub-personality. If this data is promising, we can scale up the testing and work on straightening out all of the sub-personalities.
For more information on what we're looking at, check out the data here:
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please ask! In order to get solid, reliable data, we're going to need a lot of responses, which is a tough hurdle to cross.
