Over the past month I have been getting reatty annoyed with dreamies. People keep backing out of trades for the ones I want, and the ones I already have keep moving out wothout warning.
So I am thinking about giving up on the whole dreamy thing and just playing "naturally".
There are only two I truly want (one of which I already have), but now I couldn't care less about the rest anymore.

Anyone else starting to feel like this?

I'm not really a hardcore person when it comes to "dreamies" like some people I've seen on here, but I figure one day I'll have the villagers I really want (Kyle and Freya) even if it takes a long time. I have lots of close friends that play AC that could potentially get him as well, so that helps.

I've had lots of people back out on me too, but I find that if you have patience, and don't try too hard, they'll come to you!
Every once and awhile I get a PM for a dreamie and it's awesome!

While I do have dreamies, I know I will never get them all for the simple fact that I'm really attached to most of my current villagers. In fact, even the ones that I will end up trading or what not, I love them too. XD As soon as I get a few of my dreamies, I'll be completely happy and probably will change my banner so I'm no longer looking.

I'm in no rush, but I do hope all the villagers that I want to move out eventually will get a good home (even better, a dream home) since I adore all of them and don't want any of them to end up in the void.

Be patient. :) You'll get your dreamies eventually. Your patience will be worth it.

I wouldn't give up, there's no massive rush to find your dreamies and I know it can be frustrating when people back out of trades and stuff, but hopefully one day you'll get them and it'll all be worth it :)

I don't have dreamies (I think the closest would be Zucker and Merengue but if they move in/camp out when I have a free spot yay and if not it wasn't meant to be), so I can't say I've experienced your frustration.

Personally, I think the concept of dreamies can end up preventing people from enjoying villagers they otherwise would enjoy if they weren't focused on getting particular ones.

I don't think that giving up is necessarily the easy way out though. Sometimes you have to know when to quit, especially when it's a game and not something like a quest for a dream job.

But if you are rethinking quitting, I'd check out the cycling threads. I know that Willow and Mooarya's thread does PM notifications if a villager you want moves in. And in the case of someone like Filbert, who I don't think is super popular, you could let the cycler know that you are looking for them, so they could know someone is definitely interested in them if they camp in their town.

I see what you mean with that.
Having and getting your 10 dreamies has to get boring after a while. You'll get bored. That's why I only chose 8 villagers - so I have the 2 to switch after a while. Y'know? :|

I think I will keep 2 villagers on my dreamy list (Kody and Agent S), and just let others move in and out normally.

Yeah, I think that's a good plan. You have your best buds but get to switch it up in case things start feeling a little stale :)

And I'm not saying that is true for everyone with dreamies. Like anything else, it varies by person :)

I never really got the concept of "Dreamies"...to me it just feels like a popularity contest. :/ Plus a lot of people miss out on good villagers just because they aren't the cutest. It's a shame really.

Don't focus so much on this. The game is meant to be played at a leasure pace. I have started playing on June 9th and since then I've only had 4 animals that left. I often play in a non goal oriented manner. Since June 7th I only had one dreamy that moved in through a Giveaway and it was Roald. I don't plan on actively pursuing other dreamies in a fashion where I won't get to know those villagers that currently inhabit my village. I happen to have Agent S right now that moved through visiting someone using Internet WiFi. I was not happy to see her move out of the void and into my town, but oh well. I don't fret over this. I go and talk to her everyday. I collect furniture, plant bushes, pay my loan, set up museum expositions, play online, etc. I don't time travel and that makes the game so much more interesting.

I wish i could do this because i know i'll probably get bored with my dreamies after months of seeing them. But with my paths, trees and hybrids all perfectly set up, i dont want to keep rearranging my town when a new villager moves out/in. It would have been awesome if the game allowed us to designate where the villagers house plots are and make it stay there even when they move out so that when the new villager moves in, they can just move into the old plot and not a new area where it could possibly destroy hybrids.

Except that everyone's criteria is different. Some might be villagers that they've had in the past, some animals they find cute, others they like because of their personality, others because of their species, others because they fit in a themed town, and so on.

I'm not sure why people assume it's always a popularity contest.

I think if you spend too much time trying to get all your "dreamies" asap you're going to get frustrated and burnt out, just relax and take your time.

There are only a couple of things with "dreamies" that I don't like.

I don't like it when people make dreamy lists based on popularity. Whether they're popular or unpopular by everyone else's standards shouldn't matter. You like them because they appeal to YOU, not because they appeal to everyone else.

I also don't like it when people take villagers from others simply to profit from it. I can understand taking them from campsites since those villagers are found in your personal game. Those don't count, but it just really irks me when someone offers a popular villager up for free adoption, and one guy has him as a dreamy and has been trying to get him for weeks but is denied having him because someone is out to make a profit from selling him to the highest bidder. It's like...why not just let the person who really wants that villager get him? Don't be greedy.

That's where I think dreamies and villager trading gets out of hand. I participate in both practices. However, I only have dreamies that I personally love, and I only participate in auctions/trades/adoptions for villagers that I have marked as dreamies. I will never deny someone a dreamy simply to make a profit.

It can help to have loosey-goosey preferences instead of individuals picked out. For example, I always wanted to have a cat, a dog, and a wolf in my town. I recently accomplished this by finding Skye in the campsite, Bones in a giveaway, and Felicity by random chance. Originally my dreamy list included Stinky and Lucky, but I couldn't find them so I was pragmatic and rolled with who I could find. And you know what? I'm really happy with who I ended up with.

I'm probably going to spend 4-6 months having fun and getting to know them. But if they want to leave after that and the thought doesn't distress me, I can let them go and look for another cat, dog and wolf - like Kiki, Benjamin, and Freya. As long as my personalities are all covered and I have the kind of species I like, it's all good.
