Girl friend/Boy friends in AC. Is that a thing?

I tried to get my ex-girlfriend into Animal Crossing back when we were together, but I think she only ever played it once. xD Her character is still there on City Folk, untouched. lol (I've barely played CF since, after all)

Just knowing that she's into video games like me made me want to have her try the series. But, I'd much prefer having a girlfriend having her own cartridge and town. Back when my sister and I played the GCN version together we were always fighting for who would be playing at the time. lol

The whole concept of dating just seems off to me. Mostly because it reminds me of Runescape dating where one would call the other a bf or gf then basically just date each other to give items and stuff.

Why not just find a friend to play AC with actively?
I Skype and play ACNL with one of my best friends and it's just as fun! No boyfriend/girlfriend or dating required.

I bought the game, and I use my bfs 3DS and he made his own town. But being a bf/gf with a stranger online, not a good idea. I'm not judging, just be careful.

I can see that happening, though I think it'd be a hassle considering how difficult it is to communicate in the game.

My friends character and mine hang out and go on (platonic) coffee dates sometimes when we Skype because why not. It's pretty cute, but it's not an actual romantic RP relationship with other people.
