gillette venus and acnh teaming up!

People are using these codes to represent themselves in game. Some people will use them, and some people would rather not, but I’m sorry that bothers you. This game is all about customization, so players can do whatever they choose.

I don’t think “simping” is the right word to use when players are looking for more representation. It should be a given, with every skin condition, culture, or whatever. We can see Nintendo is slowly working towards wider-representation, and I think these codes are a super creative way to raise awareness/represent oneself! I haven’t actually seen something like this before, so it’s good a larger company is promoting it, even if it is just a marketing scheme :/
hm. i guess i just can't quite relate seeing as i have no skin issues and only very light acne... but the representation thing makes sense and is not a bad idea, at least in the acne/freckles/certain skin diseases sense.

what would be cool is nintendo actually adding this, instead of qr codes.

but i dont think the whole prosthetic leg thing needs to be added ; v ; im sorry and ik it probably sucks to have to have a prosthetic leg but uh why add that in nh

As people have already mentioned, this is just for good publicity (like a lot of companies do things like this but for Pride Month.) I'm just kind of appauled at the people saying "I don't mind everyone being white." "The skins in the game are fine." Or talking about the word "included" like it's weird, or something. I have naturally tanned skin due to being part Filipino, and I'm pleased I was included, I just wish there were more diverse options for people of the black community.

now, i definitely don't agree with the "all white" thing... that's a bit odd... why just white people ;v; black people exist too lol and im glad they made that an option in nh

Am I the only one who thinks its kind of weird that a razor company, of all brands, is attempting to partner with Animal Crossing?

I'm not really sure what the connection between representation in different QR codes, Animal Crossing, and shaving has... I find it a bit suspect personally, seeing the various beauty standards associated with women's body hair, and that Gillette Venus literally sells tools for people to use to conform to those standards, having played to those standards in the past.
gilette/venus is notorious for making advertisements that are basically "love the skin you're in... but only if you keep it completely hairless with our products (tm)"

I think the vitiligo and disabilities is sweet. I’m all for more character customization!!
I also agree with what it stands for. We need more inclusiveness in all forms of our media.

Not to be confrontational but how is the bikini stuff inappropriate? Skin isn’t something that should be sexualized. Especially if it’s about how “thicc” the design looked... like what?? So if the thighs where thin it wouldn’t be sexual? This doesn’t make sense to me. And this is coming from a 14 year old who finds things inappropriate more than most.

Inclusivity? People can be proud of their prosthetics, just because you don’t have them doesn’t mean they can’t be part of the game.

Huh. I was expecting a little more than that, this is definitely not something where they 'partnered up' but it's just a company having gotten permission to use the game for their advertising campaign (and that they would try to hide this under the reasoning 'for inclusivity!' is just weird to me.)

Also, custom designs for this will always look a little off, and these aren't even particularly good ones. These might look okay-ish in screenshots, but the way the clothes move on your character would quickly show you why the actual game has characters with actual legs instead of drawing them on a dress... It's solution that only works if the problem is "We need screenshots to make people think we are inclusive."

I can appreciate the effort behind this, but the clothing designs are weird and not immersive whatsoever. The face makeup stuff is really cool though.

It would be on another level if ACNH actually added these skin types or different body types in game. I would love that. I worry though that there would be a lot of criticism of players using these skin types if they do not actually have those conditions.. but I still think these are good ideas!

this is such a wild take to have. people with prosthetics exist, and some of them might want to see that reflected on their in-game avatar? my girlfriend (who has recently passed away) loved this series and was missing a leg. i can't say for certain if she would have used this option, but i am fairly sure she would have been happy that it exists for people who do want to use it. it's not hurting you at all for the option to be there for folks who would like to utilize it.

I wanted to say that I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing well. I'd love options like a prosthetic leg/arm etc. for people, but that's just my opinion. Having a prosthetic body part isn't necessarily a bad thing - it means you're a survivor

hey, thank you for that - i only mentioned it because if i could, i would have shown her this and asked her thoughts on it. i think she would have thought it was pretty cool, even if she didn't use the customization option herself. i have psoriasis and a pretty gnarly mark on my leg, and if there was an elegant way to reflect that on my lil dude in the game, i would do so :) i think stuff like this can help some people become more comfortable with themselves irl, or even just make them happy to see themselves reflected better.

Absolutely. Representation matters, even if some people don't think it does. We've come a long way, but I'd love stuff like this in the game.

Don't get me wrong, representation matters and is very important. But this is an incredibly hollow gesture. All Gillette wants is your money, they don't care about making people feel secure in their bodies, they don't care about diversity or representation. This is just a PR stunt. Pandering to the younger generations. They probably commissioned an artist to make these QR codes and called it a day.

It would be better if Nintendo actually brought in options like freckles, vitiligo, acne, scars, etc. as part of the base customisation.

I saw this ad on Youtube earlier. I thought it bizarre and humorous to say the least. My first thought was they couldn't shoot more commercials irl right now so they had to use AC, but it just seems like a marketing ploy because the game is so popular right now.

I think it's great that AC now offers more ways for customization, even if it's just custom patterns atm. Skin tones, to me, should have always been an option for the games. Yes, the games were first developed in Japan and had a Japanese audience, but even the people in Japan are not all light skinned.

Unfortunately, unless modding becomes a thing for these games, I don't think it will be possible to have everyone represented perfectly. Like for instance, I saw now they've added a wheelchair in the game as an item. I have no doubts there are players in wheelchairs that play this game, but adding that as a feature to use would be incredibly hard and near impossible considering how the game functions. There are too many situations for one team to include every possibility. It's great that we are given options to get close though.
