gillette venus and acnh teaming up!

what I don't understand is why these people have to make all the qr codes and use them so that they can feel "included" in the game ; v ; no one's gonna judge u if you make your character super dark or light skinned, and no one in the gaming world really knows or cares what u look like irl. i guess i just dunno why people are simping to have their unique skin disorders added in the game    but whatever they can do as they please <3

Alot, and I mean alot of people make themselves in game. Take tbt for example, there's a poll somewhere that asks if people make themselves in game or if they don't, and overall more people do. So, if they make themselves in game, some of them wojkd want more than the standard avatar base and add some more inclusiveness.

This includes things like skin tones and skin conditions. Like I said in my other post, I have bad acne and it never gets any rep in anythin. You don't seem models flaunting their dry itchy red skin with white and black heads and still considered beautiful. You hardly see it in TV shows, anime, cartoons ect... if any.

They made all these QRs just for that reason, to be inclusive to real people who have these real conditions. This is a step forward (even thou, yes, it is a company) to get rid of the bad stigma associated with skin conditions, amputations, birthmarks, ect...

hm. i guess that makes sense. i guess it's just me who likes to have a 2nd identity behind my ac world ; v ;

I think it's about being fine the way you are and to be able to have representation in the game. Just like different hairstyles and colors, it adds variety and uniqueness... and gives people validity.
My husband has psosiaris... I don't think he'd want his virtual character to have it, but by it being an option it just shows that it exists, it's okay if you have it, and that you don't have to hide it. I think there's a big difference between freckles (cute to many) and eczema or psosiaris (which is painful and not cute)... but both happen and if someone wants their virtual character to be just like them in real life, or to simply have the condition for whatever reason, that's understandable. I've played character's with scars that I don't have irl.

I think with the older AC games, there was less of a focus on being "you." You didn't get to choose your face (determined by random questions.) You were just a Raggedy Ann-like doll with a triangle nose and sure, the default color was light, but you'd get dark and stay dark if you tanned too much. Now there's a lot more focus on letting us make all the choices.

this is the article. i think it’s really cool that they’re doing this, but tbh, i kinda miss when everyone was white. they all looked the same, and no one would subconsciously judge, or let some internalized racism show a little. don’t get me wrong, i’m very glad that a major company is helping people get represented. thoughts?
Poor choice of words there... Anyway, I appreciate the diversity of skin tones.

Just a random thought about the idea of adding non conventionally attractive skin types and such to the game... I worry it might, idk ruin the fantasy for some people? Especially if they play with irl friends? :/ Like I had acne as a teen and if there was an acne option I'm sure people irl would have been like 'hey you need to use that one your skin isn't that clear' you know? :/ they were already on about me making my character too blonde (my own hair is dark strawberry blonde, so a biiit darker than the reddish blonde option in game) and yeah I just don't want to see anyone bullied for not picking an option in a fantasy game if they're not comfortable with it

Note: I'm not talking about things like the birthmarks and other stuff like that, more rep for that is great, I'm just talking about acne really

Sorry, but I just think is really weird. It's coming across more as a brand trying to make themselves look good rather than actually achieving something worthwhile.
i was put off for the same reason. it feels very similar to when companies will plaster pride flags all over their products during pride month, but then when it’s over suddenly the lgbtq+ population doesn’t exist to them lol. the only reason they’re doing this is because now it’s socially acceptable and marketable, at least in my opinion. in some ways it makes me feel kinda icky, because i feel like if the status quo changed they’d drop the campaign/ads like theyre nothing :(

i am glad though that i’ve found a good custom design for acne! whoever designed everything did great regardless :)

All it seems to be is Gillette using NH for marketing, it's not actually a collab between the two companies. People were already free to display their different skin types and facial features from the start.

Rather give credit to the Animal Crossing team for making custom face designs a thing. It's a pretty cool feature. I myself have a birthmark on my upper lip and forehead, it's a cool thing that I can choose to make my in game character look more like me by making a custom birthmark design (at least the forehead mark) if I choose to. I'm cool with just having my beauty mark on my cheek in game, but the option is there and that's pretty nice.

Also, bikini designs on dress models are so weird, I can't take them seriously. They just don't look good at all.

I disliked that everyone was white in nl! My skin is dark I wanted dark skin. I could only get that by tanning in nl but even then the tan sent away. I've never been judged for my dark skin in nh,, I love this ides! I want more skin types. Tbh if you do judge I don't care. 🤷‍♀️

Now the article has a new vibe,,

I thought I was the only one who thought the dress Bikinis looked weird! I used to use it in nl,, but I was like 10 so,, now with the new updated drawing style it looks funny,, I can see how you feel Gillette is just advertising,, I thought it was a real collaboration and we'd get new stuff but nope. Still a cute idea I guess

Honestly yeah,, they look inappropriate,,
they are quite inappropriate... it's a game with adorable anthropomorphic bunnies that love you. if you want a game that includes a lot of sexualization then go play... uh.......... actually idk any games like that bc i dont bother myself with these things xd

also it just seems so wrong to sexualize a game like animal crossing. it seems petty and wrong and dumb and it's just ickkkk

I get that not everyone is as skinny as a stick and hey I have thick thighs and a bigger chest but..I'm not really into giving my chibi ac character that same body type I have Sims for that. I just they way the bodies are drawn they look inappropriate and sexual..

oh i totes get that. i actually think im underweight ;p i know im at least unnecessarily long/tall and skinny u v u my dance teacher likes to say that all the time xd

i actually really like how your villager will always look like some 12 year old kid.. it's adorable : ) but uh - image a 12 year old wearing a bikini?! wjat? no?!?!!? pls? what?

i'm not touching the comments in this thread with a 10 foot pole but at first i thought it was a campaign for more diverse actual options and not just advertising qr codes, shame that's not the case
Yeah I'm quite disappointed. I was hoping for a small update or something not qr codes I can make

This... uhm... i dunno what to think ;p i myself am white... and am ok with the current skin colors the game already offers......... what I don't understand is why these people have to make all the qr codes and use them so that they can feel "included" in the game ; v ; no one's gonna judge u if you make your character super dark or light skinned, and no one in the gaming world really knows or cares what u look like irl. i guess i just dunno why people are simping to have their unique skin disorders added in the game    but whatever they can do as they please <3
People are using these codes to represent themselves in game. Some people will use them, and some people would rather not, but I’m sorry that bothers you. This game is all about customization, so players can do whatever they choose.

I don’t think “simping” is the right word to use when players are looking for more representation. It should be a given, with every skin condition, culture, or whatever. We can see Nintendo is slowly working towards wider-representation, and I think these codes are a super creative way to raise awareness/represent oneself! I haven’t actually seen something like this before, so it’s good a larger company is promoting it, even if it is just a marketing scheme :/

Am I the only one who thinks its kind of weird that a razor company, of all brands, is attempting to partner with Animal Crossing?

I'm not really sure what the connection between representation in different QR codes, Animal Crossing, and shaving has... I find it a bit suspect personally, seeing the various beauty standards associated with women's body hair, and that Gillette Venus literally sells tools for people to use to conform to those standards, having played to those standards in the past.
