So I donated:
1 painting
About 12-15 fossils I think.
A lot of fish I think 12-20
About a bug or 10

These numbers are kind of pulled out of my arse, and it could be way more, but I am just saying I got at least 30 and 1 thing in every category. I donated a painting yesterday.

Now I need the museum giftshop in order to get the roost, and I really want the roost, people tell me to speak with Blather the owl, and he will mention it. Though when talking with him it's donating/assessing and I donate everyday, a little thing!

My question is, is it now just patience and try to donate one thing everyday, or should I when I donate let's say I got 5 things do it one by one so there is more chance he does mention it and are there any tips and tricks? I read a lot of different stuff on different sites/topics which is why I put it here.

When he is awake, you should see him thinking about something (with the thought bubble over his head). Talk to him then and he will suggest the museum expansion.

At least that's how it went when I did it :)

Did you donate any of the diving creatures?

If you are unsure about the quantity of items you donated, you can check the board in front of the museum - it tells you what has been donated in each category ... you could count them there.

You just have to be patient, sometimes it takes a while for him to tell you about it. You can tell when he's going to suggest it because he'll be awake and thinking.

To unlock Brewster's, you don't just have to unlock the museum gift shop, you also have to donate more items to the museum. I think it's 50. I recommend that until he suggests the gift shop, that you keep donating items anyway, because you'll unlock Brewster's more quickly if you do that. :)

I never knew about this, thanks!

You also need a town two weeks old at the minimum, as you'll have needed to talk with Blathers on 14 separate days.
