It's easy to make 400 to 500K each trip to the island. It takes about 30 minutes it's trip and you can have a million or more each night. That's now I funded my main and my other two towns. Once I had some bells saved I moved on to turnip and premium perfect fruit. A full locker and pockets of perfect fruit at someone else town can get you over 10 million bells.
My group had Turnip Palooza for a day or two. One of the member would post her high price and we'd all buy like crazy.
Abunch of times my tt/real town hit over 600 and had premium perfect fruit. Made a lot of bells.
Another time my harvest town had turnip over 600. Rolled the clock back to Sunday in my other town and found a good price.
Opened the gates and my harvest town came over. The two players filled their lockers with turnip and sold. Did this two days in a row and got 80 million bells. Good way to keep Joan in place is to dig holes around her while the other player is buying.

I never sale villager and items. Just trade or give them away.
I have 1.5 billion bells. Do I need that much no. But my brother challenged me.

Well, the fastest way I got money was have a friend with a high turnip spike, then I TTed to sunday so my friend and I can buy turnips from joan and then sell it at his place.... But before that, I had to get bugs from the island to have money to invest in turnips

Selling TBT and villagers is a good way to start, after that, to get more money, you could invest in the stalk market. Buy a ton of turnips with those bells you got from tbt or villagers and it will keep multiplying by selling turnips at high prices.

Turnips. Its one the fastest way to amass a lot of in-game bells. It's a bit tedious and you have to find a person willing to be patient while you sell a lot but once you do it a few times, you have millions in no time.
