I bet this has happened to a lot of people here at one point or another, I just had my first "sour" trade, or rather attempt I guess. I'm still not sure if I just got scammed or what was really going on to be honest. They agreed to trade some of my items for their 7-11 steamed bun case, and they came over and started picking up the items I had for them, but then had full pockets. Normally I don't mind this since I know I've been guilty of doing that too, and asked them if they wanted to use the locker in the train station.

Without warning, they ran off, making me panic because I have hybrids I'm trying to grow although thankfully at the far bottom of the map. I eventually found them entering retail to make room, and figured they are just skittish and not used to the usual "stay by the station etiquette" that I'm used to. I waited outside the door for them and eventually they came out, and they started playing with the tweeter (I think that's what it is) and said to push them into the nearby pond, which didn't work and I knew was something to do with a glitch. Meanwhile, it's 2am for me and I'm getting sick of waiting for them to get on with it and then the connection cuts out... so I don't get the item :B

I sent them a message saying we need to try again and this time, try not to take so long, and now they are flat out ignoring me... does this mean they somehow conned me out of something or were just messing with me or what? I went and checked his ratings and some said he steals items and runs off without finishing trades, so this isn't a first :S Guess it's a lesson to check ratings first if a deal seems to good too be true XD

Is it possible that he stole something from me without my realising? I checked my hybrids and everything seems ok that I can tell, but I'm not sure if there's some glitch or something they were trying to exploit >.> Darn I'm so sick of staying up late to try and close a good deal only for people to just turn off and stop replying :B

I'm betting people have their fair share of similar stories to share too :P

Where do you find ratings? That sounds like a great thing to check for my future trades as well, I've had similar issues in the past.

Ah, I meant on the animalcrossingcommunity forums they have ratings (this incident was someone from there not here), but I received a rating on this forum too once, so there must be a feedback page, I'm just not sure how to get to it XD I had to confirm the rating they gave me and it seemed public.

it's just a matter of trust that they'll ever follow up on their end.

That really sucks :c I've never tried to trade a villager I simply don't understand how any of that stuff works, but I can certainly see how it can be a perilous process :o especially considering most people offer millions to get the ones they want D:

Go to your profile or someone else's. You'll see a rating section :)

Oh yes I see it now, the extra tab on the right end of the profile c: Those ratings would do just as good as the ones on ACC, it lets you see the full comment and that's the most important bit I find.

Unless you saved at some stage it should have reset to when they arrived, so everything in your town should have stayed put.

Man, that sucks to hear, Clefairy Kid. I haven't had that happen to me yet, and I hope it never does. My trade experiences have generally been very positive. One thing I've started doing is reviewing the post history of people who want to trade with me just as a way of getting to know them a bit before agreeing to trade. I had a couple of incidents where someone said they wanted to trade with me, so I ordered the items, PMed them and/or left profile commentary, and they never responded. I won't waste my time on those folks again.

I'm sorry that this happened to you, I don't know how people manage to be spiteful even on a game like animal crossing :c
I don't think he ended up with any of your items, unless you saved at some point in between his visit. If your connection failed, then all of your items should be as they were when he first came to your town.
This is why I feel sort of wary when I make trades with people, but I always try to go to their town instead. Partially cuz i'm constantly fixing/placing patterns in mine, and partially because I want to just get the trade over with and not hang around people's towns, which I know a lot of people like to do. (A friend of mine has a very nice town, but almost every time she does a trade, people ask to explore lol)

Thanks everyone, no, I never saved at any point, because I wasn't sure what was really happening, so hopefully that means everything is just back to what it was ^^;

It's not worth losing my hard work to get a single item XD Now I have a couple of red hibiscus starters that I got them especially by request to be helpful that I don't think I really need now o .o

I can't rate them on there but I'd tell people to beware of them if I could :P And yeah, it does tend to freak me out when people want to stay after the trade, I know some people turn out super nice and give gifts and we visit my house and everything is great but often, people who run off without communicating scare the geebus outta me XD

Wow thanks for posting where to find wifi ratings, I didn't even know it existed! I don't have a rating but that's because so few people ever visit and I only visit 1 other town frequently ^^

Anyway, I'm sorry you had that experience ClefariyKid :( So far, the only bad experience I've had was when someone picked my dead flowers >< I don't know who did it or why, but I forgive you. Just don't let it happen again!

ClefairyKid, you got robbed. =( When something similar happened to me, the worst of it all isn't losing the item- it's the deceit & all the communication & planning of the trade being a complete waste of time & trust. Don't fret, ClefairyKid. Always have the Wifi switch ARMED. Any odd behavior, flip off the Wifi & trade w/ somebody else.

Know when to Save as he/she may take things around your Town AFTER a successful trade. Do NOT communicate in-game (BUT send directions/instructions via PM BEFORE any trade) as robbers will ignore you or send cryptic replies & use that time to steal things around your town.

To better trades experiences, ClefairyKid! =) Take care!

Thanks for all the advice everyone c:
Thanks ben - I was lucky that all the data reset and I didn't save anything, yeah it was really frustrating that I'd stayed there so late to try and organise it, and we talked consistently up until they arrived in my town, and then suddenly nothing : /

I'm sure things will be better in the future, and I will be ready with that wifi switch!

Ah, I meant on the animalcrossingcommunity forums they have ratings (this incident was someone from there not here), but I received a rating on this forum too once, so there must be a feedback page, I'm just not sure how to get to it XD I had to confirm the rating they gave me and it seemed public.

lol, I find a lot of "scammers" appear on ACC. That website is just to big. Thank goodness for the rating system tho!

My one bad wifi experience did happen on ACC tho, with a newbi account. He was actually a hacker and I was his first victim so, me being nice and trying to help a newbi ended up me loosing my entire wild world game to brick seeding. I was devastated. D:

I haven't been ripped off yet. Everyone has traded/bought/sold for exactly the amounts they said, sometimes being nice and throwing in extras. No one has stolen/trampled flowers or cut down trees or anything. I think 1 guy took some fruits when he randomly went wandering around my town, but I really don't mind. He didn't cut down the tree, so it'll grow back.

I was a little worried about a deal I did last night. Basically someone here offered to trade me the entire 7-11 set for a large chunk of the mermaid set plus a bunch of the regular items. I figured I didn't have much to lose - after all, all of those things are possible to get again. Even the mermaid items are, though they'd require many island trips and a whole bunch of mini-games. But just because it was 1) the rare 7-11 items and 2) I felt like I was getting the better end of the deal by far (mermaid stuff is non-orderable and a little rare, but not as much as 7-11), I still worried about it.

Deal went off fine though. Person was nice and seemed happy to get the mermaid stuff.

I got tired of ACC even before the game released (the maturity level seems pretty low there) and, even though I've been a member of GameFAQs for many years, I'd never trust people on that site. Not to mention it seems like everyone is asking unreasonable amounts for everything. I've had great luck with TBT though. Most people are polite and follow AC etiquette and do the deal they said without ripping you off. There's always going to be some bad apples though.
